Old Reliable... aka Thunderbolt

Seventh Part of the Seal
Seriously, who needs torpedoes when you have thing thing? Its weapons base could cut through any enemy shielding. The only worthwhile fighter in WC3 minus the Excal in my mind.

My only complaint... Who decided that putting a mass driver on the back was a good idea?

The days of the old Neutron guns appear to be gone by the time WC3 comes out, and a WC 1 & 2 staple is gone. We don't see the Mass driver at all cept planted on the back of two fighters, where it is absolutely worthless. I haven't heard of that turret scoring a single kill by anyone whos played WC3.

Got to disagree with you there, despite the poor firepower of the Arrow, her manoeverability, fast refire and ability to Autoslide made her a good fast patrol option...

Having said that, the Excalibur covers most of those things pretty well.

I didn't like the T-Bolt at all, she was too clunky for me. I much prefered the Hellcat and the arrows.

The Excal though, man that thing kicked some serious butt (same as the Vampire in Prophecy), heavy guns and great manueverability.

I loved the Thunderbolt. Using it on patrol was like killing flies with a sledgehammer, reliable, fun, and squishy.:)
I have managed to get a couple of kills on its rear turret before, but I have to switch views and take manual control of it, and the fighters I took out were already softened up. But I think the main attraction, for having the turret, was that it kept a trailing enemy off center, buying a little more time for maneuvers. I mean I have had everything else, with the exception of the Longbow which has rear turret, shot out from under me before by a trailing enemy that just sat there and fired away while I was trying to maneuver away or pick a bandit off my wingman's tail.

But the Neutron guns would actually kill something is my point. Those MD turrets just sucked!

The Arrow was pretty great, guns were weak, but had fairly long range, fast, maneuverable and 8 missiles. Pretty hard to beat.

With that said, I did like the thunderbolt, and usually, I took it up whenever I needed a heavier punch than the Arrow.

He only took it because his Arrow was down for maintenance.

I did think it was odd that he did a 180 on his ship preferance in such a short period of time; you'd think the author would have remembered a detail like that!

When flying for the Border Worlds you'd want to be able to get away faaast. ;)

Yeah, he gets the Arrow and the Thunderbolt and he whines about it, while we in the game had to suffer with the Hellcat and Longbow :p.

Hehe, yeah he has no idea how well it went for him :). To be fair though, we get to fly the Banshee and Vindicator afterwards which he misses out on.

its been a while since I read the WC4 novel, but I thought he flew the Thunderbolt until it pretty much died then Pliers took it apart for spare parts.

Yes but like Kuhuna said he only took it because he had to.

The Arrow is fun to fly, but in the 'real' world the heavy protection provided by the Thunderbolt would be preferable.

Didn't he get to fly any of the BWS fighters? The Avenger perhaps? Could have sworn the book mentions that...:(

No, the only "Border Worlds" craft that is mentioned is the Dragon, and its not even really a BW fighter. The Borders Worlders fly outdated confed craft in the book. The Banshee, Vin, and Avenger are never mentioned (nor is the Bearcat, even though it the focus of the raid in the game). I always thought it was odd that the cover of the book featured a Banshee, but there's no mention of it in the novel itself.
