Last month we asked you what setting you would prefer for a new fan project. While each option received a fair share of the vote, most people would like something that takes place in the WC1-WC2 era or something that explores what happens after Secret Ops. Our new poll asks how you get DOS games like Privateer to run these days.

-2654 (Pre-WC1): 16.67%

2654-2667 (WC1-2): 25.75%

2667-2670 (WC3): 15.88%

2671-2675 (WC4): 9.66%

2675-2681 (WCP): 5.51%

+2681 (Post-WCP): 26.54%

Total Votes: 1398

I'd be really interested to hear some opinions why you voted this way or that. I voted for the WC1-2 era too, because I felt that there is enough room for development for another storyline, as well as that many characters are well fleshed-out for that period.

Later on I thought, well, WC3 wasn't bad either; and the whole Border World conflict has potential, but somehow it didn't feel as well as the earlier times. Maybe I just got hit by a fatal bout of nostalgia.

So let's hear it folks - what did you see in the era you voted for?

Hehe, wow, 26.54 percent.

Anyway, I voted for 2671-2675 ... because that's the era my project takes place in :) (well, actually, it's more like 2676, but meh). I wouldn't mind seeing something in the 2656-66 period, though ... to say that the interim period between the first two games is sorely neglected is a vast, vast understatement.

I went with the WC1-2 period. A lot of things can happen in the 10-odd years Blair was exiled to ISS.

I do want to know what happens post-WCP/SO, but I think it'd be better if that era wasn't tackled by a fan project. Yeah, I know UE was in that period, and the team did a fine job. But taking liberties like destroying certain carriers, well... I'd feel a whole lot better if the story-telling was done in an official game. :)

I do agree that very little needs to be done by a fan project for that era because of the limited amount of information there is about the buggers and the mantu. Who are they and such. I wonder if Chris Robert's will ever get back around to fleshing out more of the storyline besides the fact that humanity wins in the end to have Privateer two occur.

How about pre-Kilrathi war. you could just fly around and peacefully explore the universe, seeking out new life and new civilizations and such. Well, maybe not.

There's other wars, other aliens that could be explored prior to the Kilrathi War. Even meetings with the Kilrathi prior to the first official meeting.
