Howdy folks! Bob found a good candidate for movie club (Zulu, quoted in Action Stations) in another thread so I thought I'd start an official place to make suggestions.

We're looking for movies that fit into one of these categories:

- movies that inspired Wing Commander in some way; typically, these are films that are mentioned behind the scenes in articles and interviews or referenced in design materials. For instance, Chris Roberts frequently cites Das Boot as a major influence on the Wing Commander movies.

- movies that are referenced in Wing Commander. Instances where there's a (usually loving) homage to a film in a Wing Commander story. For example, the HAL 9000 on the flight deck in Wing Commander for the SNES.

- (pretty rare) movies that mention or show Wing Commander. This is films like

Movies we pick get added to a pool and voted on each week! If you want to keep future votes a surprise, don't read on... but I do maintain public lists of everything.

You should look for connections with the actors that were in the games/movie as a category too. For example: Oscar had Elizabeth Barondes (Panther from WC4) playing a role in it. Just a thought if you're planning on expanding the pool a bit.

(I enjoyed watching Oscar - one of the few attempts that Stallone did in comedy).

Of course, that would open up every Tim Curry film out there...so maybe stick to the actors in the "peripheral" roles (I don't know if that's the right word there).

I'm not sure I'd choose that as a category personally unless you narrow it down significantly in some way that feels like it has at least a little bit of relevance to WC... So if you could maybe say "X role epitomized the public perception of the actor at the time they were chosen for Wing Commander" then I think that might be worth talking about.
 
I think Star Trek IV would be a good candidate as the mission with Sosa and Vagabond in WCIV strongly resembles the visit of Uhura and Chekov to the Enterprise.
 
That was quite good. There’s also that punisher movie which I haven’t seen but assume wasn’t so good :p

It doesn't currently fit the criteria of how we've been choosing movies, but I could see it possibly fitting into a future spinoff category if we run out of shows to plug into the schedule. In general so far all the movies for the most part have to have some kind of influence or reference in the WC series (games,books, film, tv), though we've thrown in a couple of just-for-fun entries here and there. For the most part, anything made after WC wouldn't be elligible regardless of who made it, but I could see a case for a category of "what WC influenced" that would include later works of people that helped make WC possible.

Which are coming back! October 18th is going to be the next one and we're going to do them roughly monthly through at least January.
