Nautilus?

Great work. I guess it's not "canon", but it's very interesting.

I believe we see three "Drops" in the introduction, and the weapon might be a 'coring laser'.

There's something unusual about the Prophecy intro, but I've never managed to figure out what it is. It doesn't appear in the shooting script and it seems to set up things that don't have any role in the game...

The dialogue is weird, too - the discussion between the various pods has an odd 'immersive subtlety' to it that the rest of the game completely lacks.

Yeah, it is weird how it doesn't appear in the shooting script - especially since it's present in those early story outlines. I'd really love to see some of the script drafts that came in-between October 1996 and April 1997 - in particular, to me the "Holy Grail" would be a draft late enough to include a full script (rather than just a story outline), but early enough to include series A (assuming, of course, that this series was cut out after a script was written - and there is one or two lines in the Kilrathi rescue situation that seem to imply it). I wonder if perhaps this ship and the miner probe (which also exists as a WCP ship, after all) weren't used in that series.

The thing about the intro, I believe, is precisely the fact that all that chatter isn't supposed to go anywhere - whoever wrote it had complete freedom, didn't have to deal with story and character exposition and so on. It's actually incredibly similar to the StarCraft intro (I wonder which came first - both games are from 1997) - both have the exact same events, the exact same kind of radio chatter that has no connection with the rest of the game... and the exact same kind of immersive atmosphere.

Thanks for all your work. It's definitly an odd ship, since it's very assymetrical, as opposed to most other ships in Prophecy. It would be an interesting addition to the next UE, and have it launching more of those ever-so-annoying Mining Probes.

If one of these ever appeared in UE, it certainly wouldn't be launching mining probes at the player - this is a Confed science vessel, not a pirate ship :).

As for its assymetry, it's not that unusual - the Pelican is also assymetrical. Most WCP ships are symmetrical, but it's not a hard and fast rule that they applied to all ships. Whenever it made sense, the ships were assymmetrical.

Unfortunately, no. There is a ship file for the Copernicus-class, but no such file exists for the "Drops". I've checked the remaining ship files pretty carefully, and there just doesn't seem to be anything that could have been intended for these things.

Also, I should emphasize this image, because I think it's just the bees knees:

I don't know what "bees knees" means but that's a pretty darn cool image. I wonder if someone is going to model that sometime and bring it into SO.

Yep, whatever criticisms people may have regarding the rest of the movie, that intro is just fantastic.

Aren't the Drops the Mining Probes from UE? Also: LOAF: if you're getting this obscure, you should add the Kilrathi Starbase in Prophecy (Simulator, Dula 7) I've got a nice screenshot for it too.

Yes, but only the models are original to WCP - the stats for the Mining Probes were entirely made up, and certainly have nothing to do with the original ship. After all, the original was an EVA vehicle, while our probes are more like really tiny fighters.
