Model question: has anyone considered attempting models of the capships from WC1-2 that are weapon-accurate as described in the manuals instead of the pansy ingame versions? As in the Claw with groups of four laser turrets at once and all that.

You have more time to aim whem you are sitting still. Then again, you're very vunereble.

Umm... That had nothing to do with what he asked... AFAIK no one has modelled ships specifically to manual specifications.

I dont think so... the UE version looks a little underarmed from what I remember, but its too freakin late to look it up. There should be links to important stuff like the online Claw Marks somewhere...

Speaking of the models... Heather Stephens... no, I'm joking. :)

You know what sucks? My computer. I finally got an nVidia TNT2 in it, and it runs WCP in D3D. But it runs choppy when I'm flying with Midway in view, in low details, and moreso on high detail levels. Doesn't that suck? I have a P233w/mmx, and 48MB of RAM, so it should run fine, according to the recommended specs. Heh... oh well. Maybe I'll just have to play it on software mode for the rest of my life. ack!

More RAM does the trick for me. My older computer runs SO better than the newer one, even though it's a little slower, but it has twice the RAM.

Personaly i think that D3D isn't good at all. To slow, and the graphics sucks. 3Dfx is the best for WCP and SO

Before my TNT 2 and 128 mb RAM , ihave a Voodo Rush and 64 Mb and look better and faster than the TNT 2

Heh... I also have a processor that doesn't meet the specs of my video card... but moreso, I have 48MB of RAM, and the card needs 16 MB to run its course. Also, WCP needs RAM as it is, etc, etc...

Anyone know where I can buy some good Micron RAM? :p

I had a similar problem. I originally played it on my Dad's PII266 (on software, since it's an 'office' machine, not a games machine) and everything was fine.

Got an obsolete P166 (with 48MB RAM) dirt cheap from Dad's office, but WCP couldn't work cos the video card was only 1MB.

Put in a cheap 4MB video card, and could then play WCP in D3D which was very impressive after playing in software, but when part of the memory got corrupted and had to be replaced, I suspect they used 'inferior' chips, cos when looking at the Midway and in heavy capship battles, frame rate dropped quite a bit.

This didn't happen so much in one of the early systems in WCP where 'coloured lighting' wasn't used. Incidentally, if you switch to POV, it stops jerking when looking at the Midway, but then there's no HUD. :( Bad problem in carrier defence.

Saturnyne: most microns (the one I own at least) will take anything you shove in its slots and keep kicking. As far as memory, if you dont know your types pop one of the chips out (there are many many online pages on how to do this) and take it to your local dealer, he should be able to help you.

Yes, I was referring to your computer dealer. You have a depraved mind. :D

As far as the slowdown, a lot of it depends on your graphics card when your on a lowend system. Running a 166 and 32 megs ram, when in software cant get the Midway on screen safely. Go to a dedicated Voodoo1 4 meg card, and silky smooth in even a capship duel, as long as you dont get too many up there. My advice if you havent already is to pick up a Voodoo2 ($50 or so) and slap it in there. Anything else is just a comprimise. OMG Glide is pretty... sorry. im drifting.
