Making the Games: Border Worlds in Action (October 22, 2008)

Bandit LOAF

Long Live the Confederation!
This is the ninth set of Feng Zhu "concept" ships, commissioned for an unspecified Wing Commander title following the release of Secret Ops. Over the last week we've seen some impressive space ships -- strange Confederation fighters, classic Kilrathi designs, massive freighters, deadly cruisers... now what's the next step? Put them all together and see what they look like in action! Today we see what a Border Worlds fighter might have looked like in the living, breathing Wing Commander world.

Thanks to Captain Johnny for both archiving and providing this material!

To me it looks more like a reverse layout of a Vampire.
Or perhaps like the Wraith (?) fighter from Colony Wars: Vengeance

Could this be the Predator-class front line fighter mentioned in Star*Soldier?

It looks like the drop-ship from Aliens. This artwork is really beautiful, but for some reason, that fighter just doesn't feel quite right.

It's not meant to be negative criticism in any way - it could easily have become a great representation of a new era in WC. Still, I can't entirely shake the feeling.

Agreed, I get much more of a Starlancer: The Next Generation feeling, like this is what Freelancer's ships SHOULD have looked like.

I agree, in that the Border Worlds just shouldn't look special. My opinion is that they work when they're a recent ofshoot of the Confederation struggling to keep up with limited resources... and are awkward when they're mystical superheroes (movie concept) or the Confederation 2 (every piece of fanfic ever written).

It's worth noting, though, that this artwork predates StarLancer by about 18 months.

It reminds me more of these hunter-killers from Terminator. Still nice. Maybe it's set enough time after WC4 so that the BW now have their own set of brand new fighters.
