Here's a usefull little tidbit from an interview GuruTech did with Origin founder Richard Garriott... the rest of the interview can be found here, but it's all UltimaStuff.

Q: I've heard that all games made by origin after Ultima: Ascension will be online-only. Is there any truth to this? A: For a time, yes. Each team at origin will do an Online game next. That will make ~5 in development and operation.
