lenghty John Rhys-Davies (Paladin) interview about freedom

Yikes, what did Rachel do, complain about Rittmeister getting banned over PM?

Well thanks anyways guys on the interview links.

No, Rachel *was* Rittmeister.

Rittmeister posted links to warez, got the link deleted and received a warning, posted again telling people to PM him to get the link, got banned, re-registered as Rachel and posted again telling people where to find his warez - so he got banned again. Some people just don't get the message :).

We could clamp down on a lot of things here pretty easily, but things are kept casual for a reason. A lot of the time, people who get banned eventually come to their senses, make amends and get unbanned. People who don't know when to quit are those who get their IP blocked as we throw away the key.

How would you circumvent a proxy in that case? I mean if you want to be a troll, you will be a troll, with just hints at google.

The only thing i could think of, as to resolve this, is agressive moderatoring responses and allowing this person to get back in, because they usually make mistakes. I used to run a forum and a collegue of mine who had been fired tried to be an ass over and over, but since he was willingly attacking and insulting people at random we had to resort to logs, poster behaviours, etc. before being able to attend the local police to consult him on the base of his actions and warn him what fine he would face if i pressed charges. I also had to explain what it was they were dealing with and how to analyze the logs(that were running on a local machine), but it worked. Until the Forum was disbanded a year later, never heard from him again.

Some forums are different then others. People do stupid things and make mistakes all the time. (Lord knows I've made my fair share.)

The point is, rather then ban people, most of whom are legitimate Wing Commander fans who want to keep the game alive, these guys seem to keep banning as a last resort.

I kind of like the way they do things "Act stupid and we'll make fun of you, piss us off bad enough (mcgruff...), THEN we'll ban you."
It's an admirable system if you ask me, I mean look at the Wingnut V2 thread and posts by a certain hakatsuru. They put up with a lot from him. Hehe talk about nostalgic memorandum!
