Learned a few things about Landreich....

Yeah, these facts will be really helpful if I'm going to make a mod that puts the player in the shoes of a Landreich pilot. So I read a bit of False Colours (which I normally don't do) and learned a few things about them:

1. They are people who steal whatever they can or buy things for a relatively cheap price.
2. They didn't just help out Confed in the Battle of Earth, they completely turned the outcome around!

So I'm thinking about setting the IFF of Confed ships to Unknown. (Purple in FS2 or WCSaga)

Is that correct?

Well, generally the Landreich will be flying out-of-date craft with the occasional wacky upgrade--for example Hornets or Scimitars with Neutron guns in the pre-Prophecy era along with some WC1/2-style Rapiers, a few Broadswords, etc. Generally expect their tech to be about two games behind Confed most of the time, but with added-on extra weapons or shields.

As of the Battle of Terra, expect mainly WC1-era craft with the occasional WC2-era craft, and the Landreich's fleet at this point contsists mainly of destroyers (with single fighter squadrons or no fighters), and several Wake Island class Escort Carriers.

If you want to go with False Colors era, then expect some WC3 craft (sans Excalibur) and some WC3 Kilrathi craft (which came with the salvaged KCS Karga fleet carrier).

On flying style and psychology, the Landreich people are frontiersmen in the extreme (this is a nation that proudly calls its capital The Hell Hole). As such, they are willing to take greater risks than Confed, both in unconventional hardware upgrades / jury rigging, and in their flying styles. They are also much less by-the-book, though this does not necessarily mean insubordination. Expect a LOT of spit-and-glue style out of them.

So they had carriers... weren't a bunch returned to Confed later though? Which was the most powerful capship they had?

I always wondered why they didn't try to snatch up the Concordia for the brief time she was off-line. Did they get thier hands on any Bengal or "Yorktown" class carriers?

They "purchased" 4 CVEs from Confed during the armistice. The Concordia was never taken offline, it was one of the ships that was kept active. Also the terms of the armistice forbid things like selling heavy capital ships to other human groups, as it would obviously undermine the armistice, even if it was fake to begin with.

They did return the CVEs that survived the Battle of Hell Hole (IIRC 3) although after the war truly ended President Kruger purchased several of them (TCS Tarawa included, renamed FRLS Independence) along with cruisers and destroyers that Confed was decommissioning as well.

Their fleet was at its largest point in 2671 (as far as numbers we know are concerned) when they salvaged the KIS Karga (FRLS Mjolnir) a Bhantkara class fleet carrier. It was a huge addition to the FRLN, although it later was used by Murragh in his attempt to seize the throne of the Empire which failed. (Check the Star*Soldier timeline for details)
