Kilrathi Saga questions...

Technically -- but since business makes no sense, a 46 million dollar loss was actually *good* news for EA -- apparently gaming companies *always* lose money in the first quarter and then make money in the fourth (holiday sales, I suppose). Anyway, 46 million dollars was *less* of a Q1 loss than they declared the year before, so this was actually good news for EA -- go figure.

Well I am a heavy throttle/rudder user so thats a big bonus for me in WC3, not to mention the fact that neither video mode for the DOS version runs correctly on this machine, that the joystick won't run under '95 and I get intermitant crashes ;)

Good thing I've got the KS, not to mention all the great music and fact that my PC is too fast for moslo to slow WC1 down to a playable speed and that WC2s sound doesn't work :P

Despite what everyone seems to think about UO, in my experience 99% of the players are friendly. Most just go about their business, and a pretty large number will heal you if you're badly injured, or give you a more than fair amount of money when you sell them something.

I'm confused, why would you pay $10 a month just to make enemies by PKing everyone?

But yes, I hear the same for most games like Diablo II, Everquest and UO - most players are friendly and will help each other out - giving out freebie items they don't want to help others, in everquest, helping players reach higher levels extremely quickly... etc.

Wonder what would be the case in an online MMPOG for WC - would everyone go around blowing each other up, or trying to make friends. I'd hope the latter, or it would become a very small universe very quickly.

1) A petition won't work.
2) Most petitions annoy everyone.
6) A petition definitely won't work.

I'd like to point out that a petition can be effective but only if you can actually talk or interact with the people(s) you are holding the petition for/against. Case in point, the WC1 score CD we got! :)

I'd say about 99.999999999999995% of petitions don't work mearly because people don't take them seriously since people go about it the wrong way.

It's also fairly impossible to be pked on UO, now that something like 80 percent of players are on the non-PK 'mirrors'.

Say... what do you think of the prevent P'king system adopted by Blizzard for Diablo 2? In MP games, you cannot be attacked in towns. Out of towns, you can be attacked only if your character setting is put to "hostile"...

I haven't tested it 'cause I don't have the game, but what do you think? Doesn't seem a bad idea to me...

PK = Player-Killer. People who log on only to kill other players.

UO = Ultima Online. It has no real story, you log on and walk around and talk. It's like a very pretty chatroom. :)

As LOAF said , its pretty hard to get pk'd these days in UO. There are two different "facets" which basically means that there are two different worlds , one for pk'ers and one for non-pk'ers. Most people stay in Trammel , which is the non-pk facet. So really ,the only people that get pk'd are the pk'ers themselves.
Still , unless you join a guild that has alot of enemies UO gets boring very quickly.

Well there are a couple levels of PK... PK(player killer) and PKK, also known as bounty hunters. I don't like to PK (I play Diablo II regularly, almost as much as WC)... but there are lots of player killers around everywhere. My suggestion is to distance yourself as much as possible from the "waypoint" before accepting any invitations to join a party... and if they turn hostile use a town portal and escape to town asap. Unless, of course... you intend to kill the player-killer. (Sorceresses armed with thunderstorm can simply run from the PKer into known territory, the lightning bolts will take care of him in one or two shots)

Here's a thought: can we get back to my original QUESTION!?... (or at least something mildly WC-related?)

Heh... I have the DOS versions of WC2 through 4. Since I reformatted, WC4 won't work in DOS, though it flies like a dream in Windows. WC3 works fine, and I haven't tried WC2 yet.

All you need for a joystick in DOS is soundcard drivers. Initialize those, and your joystick should be useable too. I've never known a joystick that needed seperate drivers from the sound card. Of course, because of my sound card, I have to download the alternate joystick.dll for WC3... but that's hardly an issue, since it works fine wherever I play it.

Saturnyne, that only works for analog joysticks. Digital sticks require speciall software that only can run when WIndows is running.

A lot of the newer joysticks, just about all of which are digital, seem to suck ;/

(Example: Sidewinder Precision Pro).

So glad I still have my 3D Pro(s).
Why can't companies just make joysticks that are backwards compatible!!!

Oh, nevermind, forget I asked. The answer should be pretty obvious - cos most of them are made by Microsoft :(

Two statements:

1) Saitek X36 controller combo RULES!!! (the older serial version, which works "like buttah" in both DOS AND Windows; the USB version makes you SOL in DOS)

2) Maybe youse guys should take this over to the Tech Support forum, so maybe we can get back to my ORIGINAL QUESTION!!!...

True, but I was hopin' for a few more opinions of others who may've been places on the web/etc. that I haven't, and maybe seen some bargains that I hadn't yet heard about.

Also, this thread HAS turned rather into a hardware technical forum, no?... 'Course, I'm fairly new to this chat thing, so maybe it does that all the time?... You tell me...

topic drift? oh yeah, if a thread lasts longer than five posts it'll drift. The technical forum is for techinical questions, like getting the games to work and such. You can talk tech here though.

What Jetlag said is pretty much the way it is.
