Kilrathi Flightgroup names?

I used the names of various minerals for kilrathi flightgroups but it would be good to have something more authentic...so far Mamiya has pulled together the kilrathi card game flightgroups...anyone have any more suggestions? Particularly WCnews staff--
it adds a lot of flavor to see which flightgroup of kilrathi you're fighting...

There's a slight difference between flightgroups and squadrons of course, though fictional names might be considered interchangeable.
 
The problem with using existing Kilrathi squadrons is that we know what they all are already. All the fighter classes and a good idea of the squadron histories for these units are already known, and it has nothing to do with Privateer's Gemini Sector.

I mean, you've got Blood Most Noble squadron on your list. That's Thrakhath's elite squadron... they fly Bloodfang-class fighters off his flagship. You're not going to run into one of them in the Gemini Sector.

A better bet for the effect you want would be either to make up new squadrons or to generate some other kind of data -- novel style callsigns ("Blade Three", "Stalker Four", etc.), broad fleet assignments ("Dralthi - Sixth Fleet of the Claw", "Dralthi - Mercenary") or fake names for pilots {variable first name} {variable modifier} {variable clan}.
 
Aye, it was just taken from the card game. No surprise it includes some .. unlikely squadrons. And like I mentioned, they are squadron names not flightgroup names.

Your idea has merit :) I'm just not terribly familiar with names the kilrathi might use.

(But yeah, by nature of being from the card game we already know what all of these squadrons are. Fireclaw's Avengers is eight Darkets and so forth.)

Very useful, though aren't many of them 'known' as well? It's also rather difficult to apply an individual name to a squadron. Any list (auto generated or whatever) is used in mission briefings and news in addition to the HUD. "4 dralthi from the x flightgroup blah blah blah" and so on.

It would be cool to work some names into the display for individual ships though :)

ok, a tough request here.
IF you're willing (and for the sake of WC history, not just this project), would you be willing to comment/document the squadron names? that way we know what's free, or too ambiguous to peg to any one area, so that we can use it, AND so when we do wc1/2/3 etc type stuff down the line in WCU we can have the authentic squadron names?

but, there is a difference between SQUADRON and FLIGHTGROUP.

squadrons are unit designations for a group of air/space craft. Like a regiment for the army.

but a flightgroup is just a group of air/space craft together for that particular sortie.

So there shouldn't be any issue in using squadron names for flightgroups names.
 
I've mentioned a couple times already that flightgroup != squadron, yes it's being kept in mind.

Still no reason not to collect good squadron names though; who knows when we might use them. We could even use them in flightgroup names: "Flightgroup *whatever* from the bloodclaw squadron". Who knows.

We could certainly use some ideas.
 
Right now we only save squadron information...but in the future we may save more (though saves are already up to a megabyte from all the squadrons that exist in the universe at a given time)
 
Once upon a time VMA-323, the Death Rattlers, flew F4U Corsairs in WWII.


When disbanded under short-sighted Democrat direction, VMFA-323, the Death Rattlers, flew FA-18 Hornets.


VMGR-352, the Raiders, used a callsign of "HERK" before they went to the callsign of "Raider". HERK 23, Raider 01 etc.

Squadrons, squadron designations, equipment and callsigns change over the years.
 
:) then we can just have a lookup table from WC3 ships to privateer ships and assign flightgroup names accordingly

the biggest problem is that we have what? a few dozen names

we need at least 1000 to populate the universe
 
I guess I could take each word in there and combine it with another word--but that might result in such oddities as
"Blooded Sivar"

"Favored of Blood"

"Monkey Demons"

"Monkey Claw" (?)
 
Privateer takes place at the same time as Wing Commander III and the CCG, though. Literally the same months of the same year.
