I've just re-read End Run and Fleet Action this week, and, again, I'm confused about the Baron.

It says that he objected to the Emperor before the war that attacking Confed was not a good idea. Okay. But Vakka does this same thing in Action Stations, not Jukaga. Is there some explanation I'm not getting or is this another royal Forstchen fuck-up (sorry)?

Edit

Never mind. Its possible the Kilrathi had two intelligent beings among them.

See, when you start off your "question" with highly intelligent drivel like "another royal Forstchen fuck-up", you're just... well, really really stupid. And I don't mean like "Hey, that guy doesn't know what four plus eight is! He's stupid!", I mean the bad jerk kind of stupid... "That guy doesn't know what four plus eight is, and he's beating a sack full of kittens with a 2x4!".

Jukaga was an advisor on Nargth's staff during the attack... where he advised...

I don't think I get it really...

so far as I can tell from reading the novels,
Jukaga and his father were the most sensible Kilrathi I could notice around the war. Probably deserve some worthy mention.

And they were the only ones who didn't just think that the humans are just a worthless target to kill, but a brave and cultural developed civilisation...

Hmm, don't be mistaken -- Jukaga (and Vakka) may have respected our culture... but they wanted to use their knowledge thereof to help better destroy us. They were a far more terrifying enemy than Thrakhath...

True, we wouldn't have been in the position of the Earth being about to be nuked if it hadn't been for Jukaga's armistice. In a lot of ways though, we were just as responsible by bringing the disaster upon ourselves, but Jukaga's actions at the end stopped the disaster from being complete.

Best, Raptor

But see, LOAF, I ended my question with that highly intelligent drivel. :) Plus, I apologized, so...

Anyway, I'm still confused. I still don't recall Jukaga protesting the war. Could someone give me a specific incident, someone's who more familiar with the book than I am.

He didn't really protest the war itself, he protested the way the Kilrathi were fighting the war, I believe.

I kinda agree with LOAF. Jukaga studied our cultural falicies and errs. I think, towards the end though, he found more in likeness with Humanity than he did with Kilrathi culture. I'd like to think, as he died, that
he saw that he was more like us then he was to his blood race and didnt want to destroy us, but join us,

Jukaga didn't save Earth because he *liked* us -- he saved Earth because, as he explicitly states in the novel, he *knew* that if Earth were lost we'd fight ten times harder...

Really? Would some just give up? It would be a huge morale hit, after all. Besides, they lost Kilrah, and they stopped fighting. Mostly.

He didnt protest the war. Fighting is what the Kilrathi do. What he did do was oppose the stance that we are merely prey and not to be taken more seriously than that. What he wanted was for the Emperor and Thrakhath to realize that we were dangerous and EQUAL to putting up a fight to the Kilrathi and that unless they fought the war based on that, the Kilrathi would eventually lose.

And he also warned of the second menace that threatened the Kilrathi on their outer regions (supposedly the Nephilim) and that they would be unprepared when they attack. He just suggested to wait and get ready for the menacing conflict. Thrakath and the Emperor acted much to much in a hurry.

Wedge you should watch Babylon5: In the Begining, but anyway no people wouldn't give up, they would want revenge, they would know that they were dead but they would be willing to become berzerkers, and try to kill themselves an honor gaurd of kilrathi to escort them into hell. Hell I would, it is the same attitude of "If I'm going down, Im taking some of you bastards with me" it also is just the simple logic, you killed my family, friends, planet, now it is my time to kill every last one of you
