I'm a little confused as to what exactly is going on....?

So here I am wing commander player since the age of 3 (im 13 btw) just browsing through the internet and i find this website... register for forums, look at wing commander section and i see some project with recent dates written on it! Could someone explain what exactly is going on??? Is this a Fan based project to remake the wing commander games or make new ones or is it sponsered by origin or what?
 
These are 100% fan-made projects, some using the prophecy engine, some using the freespace 2 engine, brand new engines and all sorts of other engines. There are mods that add wing commander ships to games like homeworld and x-wing alliance, and there are add-ons that add new ships and missions to old games. There are new video packs for prophecy, heck, there are brand new games!

There are lots of fan projects on this website and most of them are worth checking out. There are patches to play Armada and Prophecy online with other people, and lots of other cool things as well. Unknown Enemy and Standoff are two very good fan made add-ons for Secret Ops. You can download the Secret Ops starter package for free so you wont have to buy anything to play either one. There are also some other very good looking games being made right now. I think there are a few remakes but most of them are new stories. None of the fan made games are sponsored by Origin or EA.
 
heh...I know what you're experiencing. Pretty much my reaction a few months ago. Welcome to the club...All I can say is play, play them all, experience everything!!!
 
I remember when I stumbled onto this site, it was definitely a shock to me. I thought I would do a google search for Wing Commander games hoping to find an old leftover origin site for one of the games or something like that, just to see some old pictures and reminisce. I was shocked to find an active community with hundreds of people.

I posted on a thread and was shocked to get a response (by Chris Reid) almost instantly. I was so excited to talk about Wing Commander that I tried to carry on a conversation with him over the thread (my only interactive computer experience was instant messenger) and in my haste typed Chris Read (oops)...

I'm definitely looking forward to getting my PC so I can play some fresh new Wing Commander games thanks to the geniuses who are making the mods. So welcome to the forums, it's good to have another fan on board!
 
I actually found this site when I googled Wing Commander mods. It took me straight to a story highlighting the premiere fan projects. I remember many hours spent trying to get through Standoff before the new episode came out.
