I want to play my WC1

Ah, everyone seems to say MoSlo. But don't ask me, I've got no idea how to use it. WC1 is a bit fast even on my 386 with 'Turbo' switched on.

You could use one of the cpu slow-down utilities found on wcnews(but I think they make it too jerky - thats just my opinion though).

You could order the July2000 issue of PC Gamer and get the KS version.

Or as a last resort you could whip your computer open and UNDERclock the cpu. Kind of ironic really, since most people overclock 'em :)

True - even your lowest bus speed and a multiplier of 1 woudld give you 66Mhz ... still too fast. you'd have to start off with an old computer in the first place, and then underclock it.

The cpu-killer apps are in the files section, here:
https://www.wcnews.com/files.shtml

The PCGamer CD can be bought for US$10 (ie AU$20) and that includes international shipping - its not too bad really, since you get some other old classics on the CD too (eg terminal velocity).

Play Wing Commander 1 for windows!

Wing Commander 1 comes with the Kilrathi Saga, it's been ported to windows, it's music and timings have been updated to fit the power gamer machines of today. It uses DirectX.

It's music and sfx is now in PCM WAV format, so no more midi. The cutscenes between missions are updated so people don't look like the're mouths are running off at 60 Hz.

I have Kilrathi Saga

I have Kilrathi Saga...

If it's legal for you to possess the game, then I guess I could let you have it... (not Kilrathi Saga CD, of course! I still like it!)

Before buying dedicated machines to run the original WC games, mainly WC I and WC II, I was able to get WCI to run on a P233MMX with moslo set for 40. Although the characters lip motions seemed to still run a bit fast and the text flew by like it was going to a fire, the gameplay was acceptable. I tried a moslo setting of 30, but the space flight seemed a bit choppy, especially when there was alot of battle going on. 40 seemed to be a good setting. But for saving yourself from alot of frustration, it may be a better idea to simply buy an old machine (dirt cheap) and set it up for those original releases.

Yeah, maybe I should start selling old 286's on e-bay so people can play the original WC1 and skip the KS :) And since you can use it to play other old games, I think I should get at least $1000 (american) for it. Any takers? :p

Thats what I did. I spent about 30 bucks and got me a 486!! It works great. Windows 3.1 and the Works. Oh baby I'm cruisin now!!!

I have old machines for each of the original releases. It shure beats staying up for hours trying to get them to run smooth on the faster machines. Im glad I saved all that stuff plus the OS disks etc. I didnt think they would be any use after win95 came out, boy was I wrong!! I even have the old machines running Netbios and ipx so they are all talking to my lan. I even mapped the drives, so I can run the games from a central machine instead of switching machines and wearing out the carpet sliding back and forth between them. I love my lan!!

Your best bet is to get the cd, that is what I did, though I currently am about to get KS from a friend who "never liked wc" and doesn't know what ebay is. Stupid Bastard
