how a Wing Commander Universe mission will work

You go to merchants guild on new detroit, select a cargo mission from their database: deliver a ship ment of roboticxs parts to New Reno base in the Megaron system. you then launch, look on your quadrant map to see which systems link new detroit to megaron, then you autopilot to a nav point, jump, autopilot, jump, etc until you get to megaron, land and get paid money. On the way you can encounter pirates, retro's etc. depending on what the random craft generator picks.
If it generated craft at individual navpoints then you could go anywhere in the wing commander universe at any time even when not on a preset course. we could even add a feature where at certain navpoints you are morelikely to encounter kilrathi, while at other navpoints you are more likely to encounter confed or pirates, and retros.

so premade missions are not really necessary, if you go to Kilrah or Earth you would always find Terrans , Kilrathi at every waypoint. and on the front lines, you would encounter battles between the two almost every time.

no it's not really, we just use the random ship generator to decide what's at all the navpoints. creating missions for every possible scenario would be impossible to do for the ENTIRE Wing Commander universe map.
 
I am going to hit someone soon probably myself, I just plucked New Reno out of my head :MAD: it has nothing to do with the campaign, it was just an expression oh well..
I am going to use the Vega Strike engine.
 
Are you going to be able to make your own missions, a la Vega Strike? :) No, wait. Would that even make sense? :)
 
there is a new version of Vega Strike coming out, it will be the most powerful fan made wing commander engine yet. You will not get to make your own missions unless we add characters. the problem is, there are SOOO many places to put them.
