Hilarious P2 Montage Isn't Even Made From P2 Screenshots (June 4, 2016)

Here's an absolutely bizarre Privateer 2 video that was just uploaded to YouTube. It appears to be intended to direct people to buy an overpriced version of the P2 Special Edition at Amazon Germany, but the clip is ridiculous. It starts with a Privateer 1 screenshot before advancing to Wing Commander Prophecy. Then it's followed by an image from Tachyon: The Fringe! A five-view Danrik from the CIC's ships database eventually pops up as the first actual image relating to The Darkening, but then it gets buried under a Super Wing Commander picture. The sources are obvious - all of these show up in a Google Image Search for "Privateer 2 Special Edition" - but I have to wonder if it's ever at all worth it to the people who make things like this. Until I shared this video with you all, I was the sole view. At least we get a laugh out of it!

I'm almost certain that this is randomly generated with some piece of software that searches Google images for the item the advertiser is selling. The seller simply enters the name, and the software makes the video and probably uploads it to YouTube automatically. I suspect all the user has to enter is the URL of the Amazon ad, and the title of what they're selling.

Yeah, I expect that's all they do in the hopes of making a couple dollars. If they don't even need to grab screenshots off GIS, then I suppose it is worth their time... I'm still very curious how they can make a profit.
 
People are strange. As you say, how can anybody find this approach worthwhile? I think more than anything it's just a lack of internet savvy, they probably saw a pop up ad with some shtick offering to "advertise your Amazon pages on YouTube automatically" and figured that's what most people do. I find the video quite depressing now, but hey, the chances of somebody looking on YouTube because they wanted to pay over the odds for the P2 Special Edition were probably about a million to one, and you've just shortened those odds considerably by sharing it here. Would be ironic, and funny if somebody at the CIC chatzone buys it now.

It's tempting just because I feel sorry for the seller, but I fear it would encourage more weird ass videos.
 
I suspect it's a either company that either purchases and sells lots of merchandise (from storage lockers, estate sales, etc.), or one that sells items on consignment.
 
Did they monetize the video? Iow, is there an ad before the video? I ask cuz i wonder if they are doing this for money paid from video views.

That looks like an even worse strategy than their amazon store - most of their videos literally have no views :) You guys pushed the P2 vid up to about 170 or so.
