Is it actually improved any, what are the specific differences? (i.e. are all of the in cock-pit animations smaller than before?)

Check today's news on the website it's self to see the new patch HCl made for WC:P.

Ah, thanks. Due to the time difference, it wasn't up there, when I checked wcnews.com earlier.
I'll have a look at it...

Actually its hi-res WC Secret Ops, not Prophecy although I do believe that once the SO one reaches its final stages that HCl will start looking into hi-res Prophecy as well.

The cockpits are spread out the same but the components are smaller, the CIC room and splash screens fill the screen but the menus don't
In later releases the menus will be formatted to the centre of the screen (think Xwing Alliance menus when running in hires)

Try it, it really improves it, especially if you didn't have FSAA

Hehe, I tried it with FSAA too. Like I said to Kris yesterday, the Vision engine still kicks the ass of most other space sim engines out there especially with extras like high-res. There are only two things wrong now.. the missing visual effect in Direct3D (can't remember which it is now), and that stupid NVidia card bug.

FSAA = Full screen anti aliasing, ie method of remvoing jagged edges from objects in the game.

The missing effect is the fog for things in the distance, I think an increased draw distance would be possible but you'd have to ask HCl if anything like fog is possible on Direct 3D, also the nvidia bug is the texel allignment thing right? Can't that be corrected in the settings?

As for the point of editing the cockpits as I understand it we can move component position but we can not change the size or appearance of these components because they are hardcoded althouh at UE we've just found a way around the hardcoded VDUs it seems so who knows whats possible, Quarto knows more about this kind of thing, I'm sure he'll be able to answer your question.

Oh sorry I misunderstood you there
Yes it is possible to change the cockpit frames, I thought you meant the HUD components

Yeah, cockpit frames can be edited. They're standard WCP models. And since they're such simple models, you can completely change the way they look just by editing the positions of their vertices with an IFF editor. Of course, it'd be much easier to export them to a 3D program, where you can actually see what you're doing ;).

Yeah, I mean the Texel problem, but you can't get it perfect even with changing the display options. Whatever you do something always looks wrong.

Yeah I tested it on my Geforce2go card today, once I adjust it to get rid of the blue lines I get white ones instead!!
I'll make a point of asking HCl if he knows what it is that causes that probelm the next time I see him
