Help on WCP fighter quota missions

I have been getting stuck on the missions where your objectives include having to kill 50% or 66% of all fighters--meaning that 50% or 66% of the fighters must be killed by the player and not by any of the wingmen. The problem is that if I call off my wingmen, either I or the ship I am escorting will get swarmed with all the alien fighters since the wingmen are not keeping them busy. While I can manage to fight through all the fighters by myself without the wingmen aiding me, in missions where I must escort another ship, it gets blown up before I can take down enough fighters. However, if I let my wingmen keep the fighters away from the ship I am escorting, then they kill too many of the bugs for me to make the quota! Can someone give me tips on this kind of mission?

I don't recall having fighter quotas as a primary mission objective - IIRC they're only offered as a 'bonus' for those (like me) who want to maximise their mission scores. If you can't do it, just let your wingmen free and move on to the next mission.

Sometimes the fighter quota is a secondary mission objective--you can still pass the mission without making the quota, but then I cannot get a score higher than about 85%

IN that case I think the only suggestion we can give you is: Train ;) Seriously, maybe you should first try it on a lower difficulty level and then, when you beat it on the next higher. I know in SOPS it is sometimes quite hard to achieve these kill percentages (it was for me at least) but in WCP it is quite possible to do it, even on nightmare.
Good luck. :)

Secret Ops is annoying. It has that damn quota in almost EVERY mission.

The only tip anyone can really give during escort missions is take the battle to the enemy. But of course, not too far, or your escort's going to go boom. If there are two separate wings approaching, select one wing as your target, and tell your wingmen to go after it. Then, go after the other wing yourself. Rush them, and take the battle to them before they can reach your escort.

Short of that, try to be swift about killing as many ships as you can in the shortest time. Speed is more the key to meeting the quotas, because your wingmen won't have time to kill their targets while you move onto new ones.

I think one of the more irritating defence missions in SO was "Friends in Need", the one where you need to rescue three civilian transports. Still, the speech you hear at the end is kinda worth it. :)
