Has anyone else noticed that in Privateer 2, the ceiling lights in Customs on Hades look a hell of a lot like the trademark symbol for Ultima Online? I was just playing P2 and noticed the resemblance.

i just found it interesting

It goes to show you how much in love Origin was with its Ultima Online concept, even in the mid-'90's. They planted clues towards their pet project years before it fully blossomed into the MMORG that it is now.

Privateer 2 wasn't developed by Origin, though - it was developed by a team in the UK (what is now Warthog).

All I remember about Privateer 2 was how strange it was. I didn't get how they could possibly call it a sequel. Was this Confed's distant future or a new universe altogether?

What was going on in that game? Only because I doubt I will ever get my hands on a copy of it.

It's set about a hundred years after Prophecy (2790s) in an area of space that isn't part of Confed.

And it mentions a some debris and and things from an old cat-like race!!
I have sometimes a bad memory. I played Priv2 maybe 3-4 years ago.
But at which place can I find such informations about an old cat like race?
At the news-messenger board in the cabines of the space ports?

Hm, long ago, I dislike the thought, that Priv2 could be a part of the WC Universe (or canon), but for now, I can accept it. Humans must had big luck that they spread around the galaxy in such dimmensions and such variational ways like this from Confed isolated colonies and racemutations which appears in the game.

I only dislike the thing with beaming containers onboard of another rendezvous ship. Maybe the writer of this text message meant no teleporting, but tractorbeams. I know, not so important detail, but details are the elements, which inhale life and implement a thematic backbone into a story.

Hmm, what specifically are you referring to? I'm not familiar with the reference.

Sorry, I haven't a screenshot at hand, or can say, which generic mission it was.
It was a simple transport + cargo drop in space mission. The trigger activated a text message and in the mail was written, that the cargo had been beamed in their cargo hold. Not very important - that's only my mention.
To add: I played it in German, and this version uses the word 'beam' (germanized: "gebeamt"). That was a bit irratating to me, because, even a more futuristic form of WC "Universe" (in this sense, the human technology) is the technical teleport a way too inplausible.

Well, who knows. Maybe it sucked the cargo through a mini-black hole; maybe it was a poke at a certain long-running TV series. It certainly couldn't have been a poke at Tachyon; it was released well before that.

Then again, looking at it all, I think Tachyon was a poke at Privateer 2.

Hmm, I've scrolled through the mission e-mails and I haven't found one that implies teleportation.

(The closest WC comes is that silly drink machine in the first episode of Academy...)

Actually, it was a poke at Wing Commander in general, but Privateer in specifics.

After all, it's a little hard to explain why Tachyon's Galspan fields their own Flying Pancake.
