Hardest Mission

you can't use a joystick in Privateer? Good thing my CD copy doesn't work then....

No, you can definetly use a joystick in Privateer. That's assuming, of course, you have a computer that can still run dos games and a joystick that works in dos. My current computer (docked laptop) doesn't have a serial port, so I'm now stuck with a USB joystick that is useless in dos.

I'm sure quite a few people here are running linux. I know you need linux versions of windows games, but can you run dos games like Priv or Ultima 7 in linux? If so, does linux's USB support extend into such applications? Not that it really matters now, but next fall I will hopefully get a PC and have a separate windows and linux partitions. I've been hoping that i might be able start up a game of privateer then. Is this mere hopeful thinking?

Ah, so you did finally get StarCraft, eh Earthworm?

Let's not have a repeat of the mouse vs keyboard vs joystick argument again.

Q, yes, it sure is a great game, even though a little too easy at the beginning.

Well, the Terran campaign is really one long tutorial

. What do you think of the cutscenes though? The people are probably still unrealistic by your standards (

), but you gotta admit the brilliant voice acting and overall quality make a vaaaast difference.

Yes, the cutscenes are great, just like you said. But they are over 2 years old, so they pale in comparison to the Diablo II cutscenes. And even though I still prefer FMV, I like the direction CGI is going.

Oh, I know they pale in comparison with Diablo II scenes... after all, they were made by the same people. I must say, I haven't actually seen Diablo II, but I did have a look recently at Blizzard's WarCraft III preview(s). Damn, it's amazing the way Blizzard cutscenes jump in quality every time they make a new game

.
Of course, FMV will always have at least one huge advantage over CGI - it's a lot less time-consuming.

heh... back on topic for a sec, I stand corrected. The hardest mission for me is any mission where I have to fly with the f***in' keyboard, and against the m***** f***in' c********. Er... Corvettes. I hate those things... bane of my existance... just like Cancer, AIDS, and Bill Clinton.

Saturnyne: Hmmmm. Bill Clinton's about to step down and I just supplied some tips for wasting corvettes. If you hate them as much as you claim then the auto destruct cheat might make you very happy

As for cancer and AIDS sorry.
Ironical note. My skin specialist tells me that if I were to contract AIDS my skin would improve, even though I would be dying. The only proven antidote for my skin condition and it kills me in a different way. Typical.

Ah, the bitter sting of irony, huh? Anyway, I'll be sure to try those alleged "tactics"

I always use whatever ship Rachel (who has NOTHING on Flint... droooooool) gives me on that mission, with is the Thunder... uh... whatever it is. It only has one torp warhead, and there are four (Or more?) Corvettes in that mission. Bane of my exist... oh wait, I said that already.

Saturnye: "Rachel (who has NOTHING on Flint... droooooool)" is a statement that's correct in more ways than one

Who has seen the Terran / UED ending (of Brood Wars)?

Doesn't it remind you (a bit) of Starship Troopers?

Maestro: "Lighten up Spyder! We're not gonna die! We're gonna WIN!!"

Zero: "Hey, Maestro... Uhh... If you DIE, can we pick through your stuff before we head back to Sol?"

Maestro: "You can burn in Hell."

I've seen it, it leaves the story ending so vague.
*<({
})>*
I mean with Zeratul and Raynor disapearing and Kerrigan practicaly taking over the Koprulu sector it leaves the story just begging for a conclusion. I give Blizzard another year max before they announce SC2.
But why am i talking about Starcraft? WC rules!
P.S. Excalibur is and always has been the best ship.
hehehe just trying to cause a little chaos...

Anagram: It was obviously supposed to resemble it, since it's the same sort of government. I only got to watch Starship Troopers recently... highly amusing, the way it seemed to resemble the Third Reich. I take it Heinlein wasn't too optimistic about democracy

Ever read the book? It's interesting to note the government in that book is called the Terran Federation.

If I'm locked on, there's no such thing as evasive action!

I haven't come across the book yet. To tell you the truth, until I saw the movie four weeks ago, I was under the impression that it was just another piece of junk with no storyline
biggrin.gif
. I had no idea it was based on a book.

Loosely based. And when I say loosely, I mean it. I can count the number of things the movie and book have in common on one hand.

Actually, I think Heinlein was more interested in gang-banging and homosexuality than democracy.
