Go To Your Room! (July 14, 2013)

There's a new poll today that asks about the best room aboard the classic Wing Commander carrier. Each game has a slightly different set of available options, but there's a basic set that stands out. Which place was your favorite?

The old poll asked how long it'd been since you were back in the cockpit. The majority of Wingnuts seem like regular players, but a few of you

out there seem to be stuck farming on Nephele!

I find the results of the last poll somewhat depressing, 70% of all voters haven't played a Wing Commander game for at least a month. Call me obsessive, but I've got a WC playthrough of one kind or another ongoing pretty much constantly!

Prophecy is next on my docket.

The bar was the room that hooked me starting in WC1. To this day I still catch myself whistling that old theme song "Swing Commander" aboard the 'Claw. Used to leave it playing loud on my speakers while going into the next room to grab a drink or a bite to eat between missions. Really felt immersed even when not actually playing the game.

Same aboard the Victory, especially in Kilrathi Saga's Wing III where you can hear full digital music that matches the FMV scenes. I love that style of music.

Depends how you look at it. I think as our community gets a bit older, there's a segment of people who barely play games at all anymore. When things get hectic for me, it's not hard to go a couple weeks/months without playing any type of console/PC game at all. I think it's pretty great that so many people still play so regularly.

On the subject of the current poll...

I don't know why the bar is so popular. Sure, you can talk to fellow pilots and down a few ales, but the Barracks is it for me. Where else can you creepily watch your comrades in their sleep? What other room has a single door between safety and the vacuum of space? That's livin' on the edge!

Ask the crew of the BWS-Intrepid, they know EXACTLY how on the edge that was. Durangos aren't supposed to look like the way we saw it. It's missing the bridge and the barracks, blown clean off.
