Getting people to like you

What events make the different factions like you? I would have thought that doing missions for the confed would make them like you (or at least hate you less) but it only appears that killing people that factions hate makes them like you. Is the true?

While we're on this subject, I've noticed that killing pirates upgrades my relations with the Kilralthi. What gives? I would think the cats would dislike you on principle no matter who you whacked.

Simply flying a mapping or cargo mission for a faction won't budge your standing with them. You need to kill their enemies ;-)

Is there a trick by which one can stay enemies with a faction. I need to be enemies with the hunters, but the moment I kill a kilrathi they like me again. So I have to avoid killing kilrathis, which means that I can never auto to jump points, because they keep following me everywhere. (This game is getting frustrating to utter boredom...)

If you have ships chasing you across the sector and they get annoying, jsut quite and restart the game. They'll be gone.

Thanks.
Is there some file I can edit by how much a faction likes me when I kill their enemies? I want to put those numbers to zero for hunters.

If you get a faction to -100, it seems like it takes quite a bit more to get them to like you again.

What you need to do is go hunter-hunting! ;-)

The easiest thing is to do faction hunting in a demon. Ok, so it wasn't available in the original privateer, but...

The reason is that it can go 1200 with afterburners, thus quickly getting you 10k clicks away from any hostiles you *don't* want to kill (after which you press "a" to go whereever). This saves *a lot* of time.

I keep hearing about people buying a demon; I don't know where to buy one. But what I did is edit my centurion.blank.csv to make it 617 normal speed, 1234 with afterburner.
By the way, I've just edited units.csv to make demons slow as tricicles, in the hope of passing the oxford escort mission. I hope it will work.

Is that right? I guess that justifies the fee, then :) No, the reason I didn't join the guild was that I felt ripped off by the merchants guild; --there were missions at the beginning, but then they dried up. By the way, the trick worked: Made the demons slow as snails and I passed the oxford mission, finally. There need to be cheat codes, for those not inclined to editing spreadsheets... ;-)
