Fleet Action Carriers

I just finished Fleet action not too long ago (great novel :) )and I'm a bit confused. The Hakaga class carriers are said to be twice as large as any carrier the Kilrathi had. Which carrier is this comparing it to? Also, this carrier isn't the dreadnaught from WC3 right (even though it is set only a few years after FA and the Kilrathi have found a way to build a 22km warship!)? Also, the art on teh front of the novel makes the carriers look suspiciously like Ralari Destroyers (I guess this makes sense, since the Kilrathi destroyers were sent to nuke earth and other planets, not the carriers).

Alos, an unrelated question. I also recently finished Secret Ops and had a question. DO we actually see the midway or Vesuvius in the game? Did I miss something? Thanks to all.

The carriers were not the same design as the WC3 dreadnaught. Remember, they were twice as long as any carrier.

The Dreadnaught was built because the Royal Family is a bunch of pompous kitties and had the damned thing built to make them look good.

The cover art for all the WC novels (WC3 and 4 aside) are rather deceiving. Look at Action Stations: Guy is wearing a funky helmet, has a girl on each side of him and has a bigass rifle. You wouldn't know it was Wing Commander if it wasn't for, oh yeah, that small Kilrathi head down in the corner...

The Midway can be seen in the Sirius system. If you happened to do really well in Luyten (the episode prior to Sirius), then you may have skipped Sirius and gone directly to Krieger.

We see a Vesuvius-class carrier battling a few Nephilim ships during one of the scenes between episodes. I don't remember exactly when that takes place, though.

They launch some fighteres, lotta gun fighting, and the nephilim wipe them out, along with 2 pelicans I think.

The Hakaga class carriers are aboout twice as long as Confed's Concordia class -- but their exact length is given in the book... 1,580 meters. They are, indeed, the carriers on the cover: look closely and you can find all the embedded engines and flight decks listed in the novel.

(And no, they're not the same as the H'var Kann class dreadnaughts from WC3... or the Bhantkara class heavy carriers from WC3... both went into service *after* the Battle of Terra. The Kilrathi Hakaga was the first ship to break the sizelimitation for using jumps, and other classes quickly followed).

Of course, the Vesuvius was destroyed eight years earlier... but we see two Vesuvius class ships in cutscenes. The TCS McKinley is in the intro and the TCS Mt. St. Helens is destroyed during an early cutscene. The Midway shows up in the intro and in the Sirius system (sporting a T-Bolt squadron!).

Okay, I didn't think the hakaga and the dreadnaught were one and the same, just making sure.

Also, I guess I missed going to the Sirius system and helping out the Midway. I was wondering if we saw a Vesuvius class during the game but as you've pointed out they were only during cut scenes.

Thanks to all :)

Well, there is a way to fly with a Vesuvius. While that scene is playing, you have to hit either F1 or F12. It's been a while, so I'm not sure which one it is. Anyway, doing this will put you into the cockpit of a Devastator, I believe. You'll get to fly around with that doomed carrier and her escorts while they get blown to bits.

Kindof a cool and dark little tidbit, I'll have to try it sometime :)

Also, another thing I was wondering about when reading FA, where was Blair when this was going on? Any speculation?

During the BoT? Fighting.

To be slightly more specific, he flew off the Concordia during the Battle and was injured. He then spent 6 months in a military hospital. Luckily, because of this, he was not aboard the Concordia when it went down.

Wasn't it mentioned in WC2 that hunter was dead though, or implied in a convo? They musta cloned him for FA, and when he died a second time gave up lol. :D

Nope... they mentioned that he put a slime rat in Maniac's bunk, though.

'Slime Rat versus Mud Pig' would be a good SpaceBattles topic.

If there's such a thing as a good spacebattles topic.

And there isn't.

I think "Slime Rat Versus Mud Pig" would make a great Peter Telep novel title!

It was, but only on the losing path... and for the most part, it is the winning paths that are used as the starting point of whatever product comes next.

Ahhhhh (little light going off over head)! That's where he was injured. Guess I skipped over that little thread of info. Thanks

Ahh that explains it. Me being the crappy pilot I am (blaspheming Blair's holy name :D )...

There was an ending to the Descent series.

The lesson here is simple: don't say things just because you know a proper noun.
