Epee Gripes.

Personally I would just run away if I met seven Jalkehis. That was the best feature of WC1 and WC2. In fact some of my fondest childhood memories involve me fleeing in terror from Kilrathi heavy fighters.

thanks for pointing that out to me Mekt-Hakkikt. Thanks makes a lot more sense now. I'm not sure what the odds would be for that battle but I guess somewhere close to 1,000,000 to 1

I can't tell you why but that made me smile and happy. Good memories. :)

You're welcome. I don't reall remember if I ever pitted 7 Jalkehis in Academy against my Epee. Though of course, you were at a disadvantage in Academy because the fighters were all in shooting range as soon as you reached the navpoint. And they started shooting immediately.

Edit: that was maybe my main gripe about Academy (besides not including all ships): I always thought the mission builder would have been better if you had just a clear nav map like you had in WC 1 and 2 and where you put your nav points and hazards and then specified what fighters would wait at a specific nav point. But I had fun nonetheless.

Yeah i shoulda come here before buying Academy... Here I was all hyped up to pit like 2 Confed dreadnoughts with an assortment of cruisers and destroyers against a clearly superior kilrathi fleet, with a smaller task force consisting of one Confed dreadnoughts and a small cruiser/destroyer escort off to the side offering support to damaged ships and fire support from the outside. (X-Wing Alliance BoE style as the cruiser Defiance did the same thing)... man was I disappointed...

I don't know what, but I love flying missions I have absolutely no chance of winning... just to see how much damage i can do before I get blasted... yeah that'd be my thing, my epitaph would read "Hell awaits me, but I will not be such easy prey!"

I just flew against three level 4 jalkehi, two level 4 drakhri and two level 4 strakha in Academy and won... The Epee is awesome!

I'd have to say that I agree with the comment about the Ferret. In WC2, I'd take a ferret against just about anything out there!

I'd think they'd retire the Epee first. Once fleet wide complaints came into HQ saying how the pilots were refusing to fly it for any sort of mission.

Seriously though, once the Laser/Ion version of the Arrow comes around, Confed had a fighter that was faster than the Epee, had better weapons, AND better shields. Thus, I would expect that the Epee and Ferret got superseded by the Arrow for most uses around the end of the war (i.e. during or immediately before WC3).

Really? I thought those were only "our" complaints. I don't remember anything in the official fiction that suggested the Epee was as awful as I remember it being in WC2. The Academy manual mentioned two aces who died in Epee's but didn't directly blame the Epee for it.
