End Run

The auction went on amazon.de and End Run isn't still avaiable in Germany (like everywhere). So I was happy to get a used copy and that for little money with 2 other books. I'd have been stupid if I hadn't bought.:)
End Run isn't sold any more. So...

By which logic? Star Trek is still having new material made (though it's currently in a break) and it has an insanely huge number of fans... It's not really comparable to WC except for the fact that normal people won't buy the books because they figure they're either stupid, they won't understand because they don't know the backstory or they think they're nerdy.

Indeed -- Star Trek appeals *only* to the huge masses of Star Trek fans... readers of serious sci fi avoid it like the plague. Star Trek (and Star Wars) can sustain that because they have more followers than Robot X-37... but WC *can't*.

Well... then I suppose it's really prejudice, because I'm quite sure if ever gave a couple of WC novels to some of my sci-fi reader friends, they would quite enjoy it...

True, having background contextual information helps, but it doesn't take long for a passionate sci-fi reader to get his imagination start working... :)

The fact that you and I and LOAF and Kris and most everyone else on this board wants a WC novel, does not legitimize a release by a publisher like Baen or HarperCollins. Besides us, who's going to purchase it? Libraries mostly, I'm sure. Maybe some impulse buyers, and if it's Forstchen-written, maybe some people who bought his non-WC books. All together that, to me, spells about 2-4,000 copies sold at most. Considering End Run had a publishing run of, what, 25,000 (Correct me on that LOAF), that's bare bones.

We've got a CD on the way, we've got lots of fan-made conversions in the chute, we still have contacts in EA
and we have enough to talk about to keep us busy. Be thankful Wing Commander didn't fall off the face of the Earth like so many other classic games.

BTW, does anyone have the link to:

A.) The End Run Novelization posted on the internet a while back?
B.) A picture of either the covers to Wing Commander 1 or 2 w/o the title or words. I'm looking for just the pictures.

Try looking for auctions on eBay... usually the seller posts pics of the items (there's a number of WC2 items for sale right now)...

Or try the OriginMuseum... :)
