212 Squadron - "The Old Man's Eyes And Ears"
Sorry for being O-T on this, but someone has to say it.

Has anyone seen the "sub-title" for Star Wars: Episode II? What the heck? "Attack of the Clones"?!?! Eeeeeeew, crappy title.

Just be glad its a title for a Star Wars ep and nothing to do with Wing Commander. I would be ashamed to be a fan of anything with such an unimaginative name.

They said the title is a throw back to the sci-fi movie serials of the 30s - 50s.

I say thats fine, but not for Star Wars.

It just seems,to me, a little forced and to obvious. It is like if the title of TPM were, The Blockade by the Federation.I'm sure we will get used to it,though.Take a look at the previous titles such as the Empire Strikes Back.It is so lodged in our psyche's that, we realy do not think much about it.However,if you realy think about it,what kind of name is this anyways, The Empire Strikes Back.It is almost on the same level as the Attack of the Clones.A lot of people here might not remember the Empire(or even worse, umpire)strikes out jokes. So,while I do not think it is particularily clever ,I am sure we will get used to it.As all the Star Wars titles have relatively similar type names. It is just the style Lucas uses,Since the prequels are modern, higher budget, throwbacks to the good old shows which he watched as a kid.

Hmm..actually, good observation. All the Star Wars movies have corny titles. This ep2 title fits in, actually, however corny it may sound.

But Ewan McGreggor even said that the title is really, really bad!!!

And just like the other Star Wars movies, they wont be remembered for their names. When you think of "Attack of the Clones" you will either think of a kick ass movie or a crappy movie that continued the legacy of the Phantom Menace but you wont think "lame name"

Ewan's actually a pretty smart cookie. He turns down every Hollywood film that comes his way (Star Wars aint a Hollywood movie, its more like Hollywood wants to be Star Wars ;) ) and turned down "garbage" like ID4.

He's also Dennis Lawson's (Wedge Antilles from the original trilogy) nephew. :)

Yes, i said the same yesterday at night in one of the threads...wath the Hell is the name Attack of the Clones,
It´s a lame name, i hope that the movie shows the death of Jar Jar.

Here's a copy of a post I made on a DVD newsgroup about just this very thing:

Am I the only one who thinks this title is just really ...... lame? "Attack of the Clones"? Sounds like some poor B-grade horror flick. Or a Fox TV special -- "When Clones Attack" or "When Good Clones Go Bad".

I thought this prequel trilogy was supposed to be centered about Anakin and his fall to the Dark Side. Seems to me a title more in line with that overriding story would be better. Heck, even like "The Growing Menace" is better than this! If the clone involvement is such the important issue, then why not simply "The Clone Wars"?

Sure hope the movie itself is better than the title. Based on what can be found of the plot, a good title might be "The Approaching Storm" or "The Gathering Darkness".

What think ye? Discuss....

My three cents, anyway.

Why "the"?
Just "Approaching Storm"... avoiding to put "the" in front already makes a title sound better...

The Approaching Storm is the Ep. II prequel novel by Alan Dean Foster coming out a little while before AotC comes out.

And calling it "The Clone Wars" would be redundant. Star Wars: The Clone Wars? Nah.

And I think it's a fine title. I read it last night and I was a little... weirded out by it at first. But I've gotten used to it.

And it's kinda a neat title, considering everything that's been going on with that mad Italian scientist (Antoneli?) and everything.

Anyway, it's not what I would call Ep. II (yes, I would've gone with something about Anakin, but...), but I think it's fine.

And "The Empire Strikes Back" is no less lame.

Because the correct titles to date have been:

A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Phantom Menace

Thus, it appears that including the antecedant (in this case, "The") is perfectly acceptable.

At any rate, I rather prefer "The Gathering Darkness". :)

Not really, if you consider that the title is NOT referring to Luke as an individual, but the the Jedi as an order, a group, THROUGH Luke. In that light, it is a title of implied symbolism, and not so simplistic.

That's the way I look at it anyway.

Come to think of it, The 4-6 titles made sense, they actually had something in common with the movie.

'A new hope'.
'The empire strikes back'
'Revenge of the Jedi' (original title) /'Return of the Jedi'
They all relate to the movie.

'The Phantom Menace'? I struggle to see how it relates to the story like the original saga's titles.

Well TPM was very disapointing.....

But The Planet of the Apes, was very good !
