O.K. here it goes:

I love movies, TV and computer games. But, in the movies, Geoge Lucas is trashing Star Wars episode by episode. In computer games, there´s not a new WC game in sight. But those two still have hope. Now, why did they stop Space : Above and Beyond in TV? Man that was the best thing after the creation of WC !!! I dont think the the producers(Fox?) ever geve a reason to do it. I know tha S:AaB has nothing to do with WC, but after seeing a episode I always feel like playing Prophecy. Tell me your thoughts.
Is there hope gor GOOD Sci-Fi in this world ?
 
I am not sure, is this S:A&B the series where humans battle the chiggs, on board the Saratoga? With an "invitro" Colonel?
 
Yeah, it was the Saratoga.

SAaB was an excellent show -- but it had some problems... it was very, very expensive (possibly the most expensive show on TV at the time), and didn't get the ratings to justify that fact.

Yes, but they created a legend. They ended the series by killing almost every one in the verge of the last atack on the chiggs home planet.Imagine WC III finishing with Blair crashing on Kilrah and the Cats taking over the Galaxy.
 
It was, indeed, one of the best TV shows ever... but it just wasn't appreciated in its time (and it had a horrid timeslot, 7:00 on Sundays, that meant it was constantly pre-empted for football...)

This is an outrage! You know what this show is called in Germany? "Space:2063" Incredible, why do German translators always think they have to change the meaning vof what they translate. Arrg, I think I will explode...

Hmm, I never thought of this series as sth particular good. Sure it was entertaining and the battles looked very good.
But I was very annoyed by all this "We are Marines" fuzz and how the characters for no reason started to talk about their childhood and how important Baseball is for this Paul, don't remember his last name and always these invented problems for the characters. And of course they had to bring the topic prejudice in, with the invitros, just like the Pilgrims in the WC movie. It all seemed so constructed to me.
But ahh, it is a matter of taste again. I found it an entertaining series with great SFX but nothing more.
And yes I think there is a hope for good Sci-Fi but as you can see by this post, it is very difficult to commonly agree to the term "good" :) . But as long as there is Sci-Fi that is not produced for the mass, there is hope.

Didn't knew that. It's cool.
I think that the Sci-Fi production is related with the state of the space exploration at that time. The last big Sci-Fi boom was from the 70's until the Voyager disaster, in 1986 (correct me if I'm wrong). After that, Nasa had very little funds and the people just had no interest in space. Now,the nest big step will only be in 2020-2030, when men land on Mars. Will Sci-fi remain in hibernation till then?
 
I think you mean the Challenger disaster... the Voyager disaster was what they replaced Deep Space Nine with... :)
 
I have seen a few episodes of SAAB, but didn't care for it. Too much fake emoting. They didn't act like combat soldiers, they acted like young actors portraying what some civilian in front of a typewriter thought combat soldiers would act like.

And I'm not going to get dragged into an argument about Star Wars, though I happen to think that George Lucas knows what he's doing. Give him a break, people, it's his story, let him tell it like he wants to.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!!! I remember that! It was the second sci-fi movie I saw in my life, after Star Wars (I never got a chance to watch the series...)

I was living in Germany back then. LOL, I remember how funny it was to watch Battlestar Galactica in German again...

Not to mention that him and his team brought us the infamous Guybrush Treepwood, the terror of the sea :)
 
IMO, SAAB got much better as the season went on... the last couple where it focused a lot more on the war were much better (Sugar Dirt has got to be one of my favorite episodes of any show...)
 
Although the series has been showed two times (at least) in full length (I guess) in Germany I never managed to see the last episode (it was in two parts and I only saw the first).
Here is what I remember: They land on moon where they find a weird looking alien which protects some sort of eggs there. Then they leave again and suddenly the Chiggs propose peace.So I guess this creature they met on the moon was a Chigg. But I also guess that there was no peace treaty as I heard that most of the characters died in that last episode (Yes!). So please if anbody enlightened me.
