This thing about Pearl Harbor is the same reaction the movie Saving Private Ryan got at first, but the movie Pearl Harbor was not a typical "entertainment" type movie, it is a "documentary" movie. Documentaries are not usually focused on entertainment, but information.
How many have seen the previous movie "Tora Tora Tora"? Again another documentary. Except the movie Tora Tora Tora focused more on the Japaneese side of things, as the name of the movie is using the Japaneese code that was used to tell their fleet they had achieved suprise once they reached Pearl Harbor.
So just remember, the Pearl Harbor movie isnt an "American Pie" type movie. I have yet to see the movie, but have seen the previews and read the articles on it. One of my other hobbies is studying history. I have seen raw footage from the actuall combat cameramen footage based at Pearl Harbor during the attack. Remembering that, and seeing the previews of the movie, I was looking for historical accuracy rather than entertainment content. I think if you go back to view it again with the notion that it is a documentary type movie, and not a typical entertainment type movie, you might, just might have slightly different opinions. But Hollywood has always made documentary movies with a sprinkle of entertainment in it. Thats what they do, make entertainment movies. And just about every single movie that hits the big screens and eventually the home vcr/dvd players, there is a love story entangled in it somewhere! Be it a boy/girl thing or a boy and his dog or man and his boat or some other silly thing.

It is. A lot of the men are shown blubbering, screaming "I don't want to die!" and they do a second later.
The love story adds nothing at all to the attack, as the attack in no way detracts from the love story. (There is a surprising moment when the nurse finds out what happened to her friend) The only historical character, the one played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. (a good actor, by the way), is seen for about 5 minutes of the film. Not all at once, either.
Ending's not so hot, either...it ends with the raid on Tokyo. They don't bomb anything over the damn city...a few factories blow up, and that's it.
It was a vehicle for the love story. Like Titanic, but with cool explosions. Not bad if you like special effects, though...

No, it's not a stupid rumor. It's a false rumor to be certain, but it has some merit.
FACT: FDR wanted us to get into the war. He was very concerned about the British and that the Nazis could get the drop on us.
FACT: We blew up a confirmed Japanese minisub before the attack. It's obvious that they were scouting us out.
FACT: The report that the Japanese were attacking Pearl Harbor arrived, oddly enough, one hour late.
There's a bunch more, but I don't feel like looking them up right now. Maybe later.
And the movie is called Capricorn One. There's some theories that we didn't land on the moon, but there's basically all bunk if you have an elementary understanding of physics and zero gee.

Weren't we gonna be in the war pretty much anyway? I thought the fleet that faught at Midway left for Japan two days before Pearl Harbor.
Here's what I can gather from history books...
1. US supplied Japan with oil.
2. Japan was allied with Germany, Great Britan's enemy (hence Japan was our enemy too)
3. US pulled the plug on oil supplies to Japan, to keep up relations with Europe (with the exception of Germany of course)
4. Japan got MAD.
5. Japan bombed the living bejeebus out of Pearl Harbor.
6. US returned the favor. In spades.

Oh, and one more thing... That minisub wasn't the only surveilance... A japanese ambassador liked to climb up to the highest point of the island and take "tourism photos"... of the US fleet. People thought he was wierd, but they were just gullible! Ironic, no? (I saw it on PBS... geez I was bored)

Hey! I went to the highest point in Macau and took a tourist photo of the Chinese garrison's APCs . Nothing weird about that.
As for FDR, there is plenty of evidence that he didn't ignore Japanese plans on purpose. Think about it... if FDR had ordered the Pacific Fleet out of the range of a Japanese attack, what do you reckon the Japanese would have done? You do not scare an enemy by running away. Had there been no fleet at Pearl Harbour, they'd be making movies called "San Francisco" or "Los Angeles".
