Do we have faith in WC?

I think that the making of a WC1 soundtrack is definitely a stick to shake in EA's face. It shows we're not going anywhere and it shows we're still in a good enough number to bestow a soundtrack on, an item that is usually reserved for very popular games, not on games that some people (possibly people @ EA as well) might see as old or out-of-date.

Heck, since Fatman's confirmation about the soundtrack, I've begun DLing the WC1 score from the CIC and I'm vastly impressed with the music. WCI was the only game of the series I never got my hands on and at least messed around with (Well, that and Academy) and now I utterly regret not playing it after hearing the music to it.

I think, considering the steam we've generated with the CD petition, that we should start considering a legit WC-Game petition.

Of course, we need to get our house in order. We should start considering things like the possibility of a WC2 soundtrack (Fatman needs to get EA's permission to do that CD) and a George Oldziey CD as well. I don't think my dreams of a WC Orchestral CD will take shape ever, but we're definitely making headway in the right direction.

We finally have some momentum to get some things done! Carpe Diem!

Perhaps a petition to get EA to let some of these fans making these fan made games to actually work with EA's source codes to SO to make a new WC game. That way EA does not have to devote heavy resources, nor would they have to devote their programmers, artists etc to it. But give EA enough control so the quality is high. I dont think the next WC game should involve Hollywood style FMV's, thats what killed the budgets in WCIII and IV, which affected how Prophecy was made. Build the new WC game much like SO was made. But who knows, with this new music CD in the works, EA might just take a step back and realize they are wasting alot of time by shelving WC.

I think they SHOULD have FMV, anything else would just be a FURTHER decrease in the reality of the characters. CGI peoples in other games are just fine for me, but if they did that to WC, I'd just have to bow my head in shame... :(

I think WC represents a constant change in the game industry. Whenever a WC game came out, it had something *more* to it. WC1 was a huge jump in the game world, and so was WC3, with the advent of FMV with credible actors and a good story. If anything, they should continue the FMV approach.

Admittedly, Roberts was "flying to the sun" in the case of WC4's budget but at least a great game was the out come and not, say, Pearl Harbor.

BTW, how much was spent on WC4?

Well if fans can make WC fan movies, EA should look at how they make them to cut costs for the FMV in the next WC game. I dont think that you need Hollywood style movies, which are expensive to create, to make the next WC game a hit. Some of these screenshots of fan movies look good enough for the next WC game. I think that EA should contact some of these fan movie makers and coders to help create the next WC game.

Seize the fish? Sorry, bad Latin joke. ;)

As for FMV in a new WC game, I'd like to see it, but, to be honest, I actually preferred the blue screen stuff of WC3 over the real sets in WC4. Don't really know why, but it appealed to me more.

I wouldnt mind going back to the Green Screen backgrounds like in WC3. I always loved the visual mood of that game. :)

The green screen, along with newer video compression as used in WCP should make the next WC game a bit less expensive to make. But Im shure EA has thought about all these ideas. We can only hope that after the music CD petitions success, they begin to move in the direction of a new game!!

I don't want incredibly super long movies in between missions again though, I liked WCP with it's "cutscenes", just a quick little apetizer to get you headed in the right direction before you go on an alien killing spree :)

Dammit! Why does everyone hate Pearl Harbor so much! I thought it was an a decent movie. A bit too love story-ish for me, but none the less a good movie. Better than freaking Titanic that everyone loves so much.

Despite the Victory being a dinosaur of a ship, the green (I guess it had to be green since the blue uniforms would stuff everything up) screen technique made everything look all lovely and futuristic. To me, the Lexington looked older than the Victory in that regard.

But really, greenscreen or live sets, FMV or CGI, it really doesn't bother me that much, and it shouldn't bother anyone else, IMHO. Think of the gameplay! That's what a game is all about. :)

I disagree with you on that one. The gameplay could be the coolest thing EVER on the face of the Earth, if the story is crap the game is crap. The most important part of WC is the story and the atmosphere. Hell, the WC games didn't even have the great gameplay to them. I mean, yeah they were cool but it was generally just the same thing over and over again. The real greatness of WC is in the story and how it's presented.

Hmm... what I don't understand is why all the "WC is about story" people say that CGI would spoil the experience... I mean, the very best WC game used only CGI, and nobody seemed to mind :).

I wouldn't mind having WC2 drawings back, well a bit modernized maybe <g>.
And a game being only about gameplay: I don't know Starlancer had great gameplay but its plot was very bad, turning it into an average game.

Wow, people actually hate it? There's some sense in the general, Stupidly-God-Fearing, Ingoring-the-Kilrathi-Threat public after all!

The next time I see a Baldwin be Jimmy Doolittle in a movie is high time we have some reform in Hollywood.

Pearl Harbor, at best, is the crap that Paul Verhoven would never touch. Over-the-top patriotism, dialouge that goes to less places than "Hollow Man", Planes that dip between buildings and come bare inches to the ground (You have no idea how much that pissed me off in the trailers), etc.

I've yet to see that almalgam of crap, and I'll continue to refuse to see it. Any...::shudder:: human being who can make a movie like "Armageddon" should be shot, dragged, poisoned, stabbed, drowned, beaten, flogged, stoned, branded, whipped and have their eyeballs razorbladed on general principal alone.

Seriously though man, you're starting to scare me....

That's different though. That was before we had anything better. I personally feel more attached to flesh and blood people. CGI charecters are just there. Now we have the ability to do great FMV's and alittle bit cheaper than before. So if you have the ability to do something better, why not?
