Electronic Arts announced yesterday that an XBox 360 version of Command & Conquer 3 is in the works. This should help to significantly broaden the audience for the game and give more people a chance to see EA's latest attempt at FMV with live sets. The company will be reconfiguring C&C's controls to work better with a console controller, similar to what they did for the well-received Lord of the Rings RTS released earlier this year. Electronic Arts also continues to have great success with XBox Live Marketplace, and numerous additions to the game will be available to download.
C&C 3 will be one of the most robust titles on Xbox LIVE(TM)(2), with a steady stream of downloadable content on Marketplace. The first dashboard theme featuring amazing concept art from the development team will be available soon.

From the team at EALA who brought you the critically-acclaimed The Lord of the Rings(TM), The Battle for Middle-earth(TM) II for the Xbox 360, C&C 3 will ship worldwide in 2007 for the Xbox 360 and Windows PC.

Woo! The game looks awesome, they even brought back the old-style Hand of NOD. I don't like what they did with the NOB emblem though.

NOB?

The game is quite far from finishing and it already looks fantastic. I also like the NOD soldiers, looking sorta demonic with their red-hot iron weapons and of course the explosive/destruction effects on those GDI tanks.

Hmm... RTS on a console.

I've tried Red Alert Retaliation and Dune 2000 on PS1 as well Bleem!.

Didn't fancy the idea much too.

I don't even have an X-BOX 360... yet.

I enjoy the Genesis port of Dune 2 quite a bit. It's entirely a matter of figuring out how to make gameplay fun on a given console rather than trying to port a game so it's as identical as possible to the PC experience. As we drop further and further away from people wanting to put money into PC development in the first place, that will be less and less of a problem.

Various companies, including EA in particular, seem to be banking on the fact that RTS games on consoles are going to be the 'next big thing'. They premiered Battle for Middle Earth II on the 360 earlier this year, and are putting a whole lot of money behind Halo Wars and Command and Conquer III.

Yeah, for a while there ace and I played Zero Hour every single night on the PC. And it was great, but stuff kept happening that made us think: "Damn, I just wish this was on the 360." I got a new computer with C&C3 as one of the reasons in mind, but the more I think about it, the more the 360 version makes sense.

I'm just curious as to how you can keep the PC's mouse actions in line on a 360, I haven't played any RTS's on my 360 yet, but I don't know if I'd like commanding my army with just a 360 controller.

GameSpot just posted an interview with some really neat new information: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6162110.html

When you fire up C&C 3, you'll get to play as GDI, Nod, or the yet-to-be-revealed third faction in the epic single player campaign or in Xbox Live multiplayer matches.

This pretty much seals it for me:

In addition to the new multiplayer modes described above, we will also be implementing support for the Xbox 360 vision camera. This is a cool new video chat system that launched on Xbox 360 in September. You'll be able to look into the eyes of your opponents before a match--in the game lobby--and then see and talk to them as you are playing the game itself.

GS: If C&C3 is a success on the console, might we see older C&C titles be made available for the 360, perhaps on Xbox Live Marketplace?

MG: I wouldn't rule out the possibility, but nothing is currently planned for this.

GS: EA seems to be very keen on releasing episodic content for their 360 games on Xbox Live Marketplace. Can we assume C&C3 will be updated by premium content?

MG: We are currently looking at the types of new content that we can provide for Xbox Live Marketplace and will keep you posted.
