OK first off, Napoleon was Corsican, and secondly he was alive in the 18 and 19th centuries since he lived from August 15, 1769 to May 5, 1821
 
AHA!! I know Nap, but he became emperor in the 19th century...

And since you mention it, he WAS Corsican, AT THE TIME Corsica still belonged to Italy, which technically makes of him an Italian... :)
 
Actually, no. At the time he was born Corsica was italian but1 years later France took it over, meaning he was born italian (actually there was no "italy" at the time there were loads of minor citystate type nations) but was french for the rest of his life. He went to school in france from age 9 on and served in the french army until 1799 when he became first consol. In 1804 he crowned himself emporer. In 1814 he abdicated and was exiled to elba island and then in 1815 for 100 days he was emporer again until he was forced to abdicate again and then he was exiled to St. Helena island where he spent the rest of his days
 
As a general rule, when you try to argue that the *EMPEROR OF FRANCE* is Italian, you should go to bed. :)
 
How can the Emperor of France be Italian? Nap said it himself...he was born on Corsica, a provice of one of the many Italian states.

Also, by name (his parents were Italian), after all, he was Napoleone Buonaparte, son of Carlo Buonaparte and Maria Letizia Buonaparte. Please don't tell me they are French names because you'll look stupid! Although it does not necessarily make him Italian, his name IS Italian.
 
Well, I guess he used the French version of his name for the most part of his life. I think with his Italian name he would not have become Emperor, and as Nap and mpanty said he spent most of his life under French rule (under his rule later on but he considered himself quite French I think), so it would be logical to use the French name.
