Best/Worst Missile

Seventh Part of the Seal
Best...

I have to say its a toss up, I love the Dart DFs of WCP. Nothing looks cooler then leading an enemy and then slaming one of those missiles into the enemy fighter.

But at the time time, I could be shooting at one enemy, and launch an IFF giving me two kills almost immediately. The Independent Friend or Foe Missile should be known as the Independent Fire and Forget missile.

Worst

For this I have the 1st place and an honorable mention...

1. The Javelin HS. I HATE THIS MISSILE. It takes forever to lock, if a fighter turns toward you, the lock is lost, and its WAY too easily avoided. Plus I've seen it come back on my own ships, EVEN ME! I have to agree with Pliers, SCRAP IT!

2. The Starburst... this thing sucks. It takes precise timing, and accuraccy to get the thing to do any damage at all. Even if you do hit dead on, the damage is moderate at best.

On The fence:

The Mace... its an awesome missile for a quick cap ship or base kill. However, I've seen it do as much damage as good. If you try using maniacs strategy, some times you can fire it off at an unsuspecting group of Kilrathi fighters, and a lucky shot will blow it up in your face, killing you.

I really like the IMREC, they've really never let me down. As for the worst, I didn't like the Starburst either, I think I've only used it once

starburst...never tried it (to recollection)

Originally I wasn't much for df or rp weapons, I have become better at using them...after UE the Dart 4 DF is my best friend. (on easy you take one of those barracudas out with just of those suckers after shooting off the shields)

Imrecs are okay, but they do get poof'd too often (esp. in WCSO). FF are okay at providing a nice finisher or just to toss a few around.

Swarmers work great against the more armored targets, but I think a huge FF volley (with less yield) would be cool). A better functioning MIRV would probably be more effective though, throw one off and it has 4 FFs go after surrounding targets as opposed to just one that it so often does.

Favorite though would have to be those Mosquito RPs. Same function as the dragonflies but easier to 'aim'.

The HS is great for a finisher in a dogfight, but it is pretty worthless otherwise. (interestingly this missle has the greatest yield next to the Dart 4 DF)....which was very helpful in UE. HS and Darts really came into their own in UE I must admit.

Worst missile, though would have to be either the MIRV or the FF (just not enough yield in those things even on easy).

This is totally subjective, but I have to agree that IFF missiles and MIRVs could easily be decoyed away in WCP whereas the ImRecs are harder to shake. From all the games combined, I'd say it's the Javelin Heatseeker for the win. It takes time to lock, it's damage is less than an ImRec, and it's range is pretty limited in comparison to other missile options.

The Mace is a finesse weapon, that is best left to use on cap ships in WC2. In WC4, the Mace is a nice option for taking down fighters(like I did with Seether).

My two favorites are the ImRec and the Dumbfires. If I'm taking on a critical escort mission I'll load up on ImRecs and focus on the bombers. But in a fighter sweep there's nothing more gratifying than burning up on an enemy and jamming a Dart right up his tailpipe. There was even a time when I could take a Thunderbolt out with nothing but DFs on any mission and do well, with the exception of scramble missions, Which is why I tend to despise the Arrow, getting stuck in that elegant but stupid bird, really screwed up my tactics.

The gimmicky missiles - starburst, coneburst, Mace - were always useless for me. I managed to get a starburst timed and fired just right once (cue Danny Vermin impersonation) ONCE. It worked out nice against six fighters, but it didn't kill a single plane it only weakened them. I did manage to kill the Vesuvius witha full salvo of them, then I saved my flashpack for the station you're supposed to stealth past.

I liked the MIRV purely for the theatricality of it. It was beautiful to see that missile fire off, split up, and circle back to smash those bugs. Prophecy had a lot of weapons that were like that, more flash than practicality, so I still wound up relying heavily on ImRecs and dumbfires every chance I got.

Dumbfires are my favorite, though thats possibly because I play Flight Commander and can't hit anything with lockon missiles.

I'd say it pretty much depends on the situation your in and the tactics you use to determine which missile is the best/worst.

Javalin HS: As Iceblade mentioned it's good as a finishing weapon in a Dogfight. It can also be used to attack Smaller Capital ships such as Transports and Corvettes.

Dart DF: Dumb Fires are excellent for taking out Heavy Fighters since they are much slower and bigger targets. Not to mention that in WC3 & 4 They are very effective against capital ships. Just be sure that you know how to aim and don't rely on dumb luck.:D

Pilum FF: The Friend or Foe Missile is effective if your in the middile of a dog fight with say 3-4 fighters. You can fire off a couple to keep some of the other fighters busy while you deal with their friends.

Spiculum IR: This Missile is probably one of the best rounded missiles in the game. Good for long range kills, hard to shake, and packs enough of a punch to be used against smaller Capships such as Transports and Corvettes.

Besides the trusty imrec, I really like heat seekers. They can be a pain to lock on a target, but that's part of the fun. Besides, they do a lot of damage.

My least favorites are friend or foes and those gimmicky weapons from Wing Commander IV, I never got them to do anything more useful than an ordinary imrec or heat seeker. Oh! Rocket pods, I hate rocket pods unless the mission is to take down turrets, then I love them.

Best missile is the secret MIRV Mace rocket pod!

Worst is the torpedo except when you meet caphips!

MIRV missiles... I loved using them against the Huge Mantas... fire it off the same way you use a dumbfire, but hit it while the missiles are still together. It works every time. One shot, one kill.
