Best Wingman??

Well, here ar mine:
WC1: Iceman (he did miracles on a hornet)
WC2: hard to pick, i should say none... what if i'm forced to, i'd say Shadow.
WC3: Vagabond (deadly)
WC4: Primate (or Hawk)
WCP: Maestro (just funny)

My personal definition of a good WC wingman is one who WON'T steal my kills. So that disqualifies all versions of Maniac right there.

You raise a good point. :p

It always annoyed me, when I'm trying to kill this one ship or whatever and then someone else gets the last shot in so they got the kill. Had that in another game as well, IL-2. :p

Cheers,

Red Coat.

Maniac and Flint always did that to me :D

Vagabond too...

I usually liked to fly with Shadow or Hobbes... They follow orders

I don't care much about wingmans, since i'm a frag whore :)
1. Maniac is the worst, couple of times i killed him just because he was pissing me off... Knight and spirit were good.. They didn't do anything, but they at least stayed alive without me babysitting them.
2.Didn't play it in a long time...
3.same
4. Maniac is probably the best wingman considering effectiveness, but hawk was my personal favorite. Worst: Catscratch
5. Didn't play in a long time, but i remember i liked maestro, zero and kingpin...

Someone you all forgot to mention...

Come on guys, Seether has got to be by far one of the worst wingmen ever!

The guy is a complete d-bag, has infinite health, doesn't listen to anything you say, and on top of all that; he executes a prisoner after the mission!

From a strictly utilitarian standpoint, his having infinite health makes him a very good wingman.

Doesn't bother me, as long as the job gets done. If you complete the mission and all get back in one piece, that's the main thing.

The kill-board is fun and all, but the story and the personalities are even more interesting in my opinion. There were alot of great space-sims out there. I might blasphemous and say that WC probably didn't have the best game-play (damn good, but not the best), but it's still my favorite series because of the stories and the drama. And the interactions with the wingmen was part of all that really.

It was like, you really felt attached to them. How angry and upset were you when Vagabond got shot, or when Dallas died a horrible death because you talked him out of keeping back and staying safe? And at the other end of the spectrum, watching Maniacs' futile-but-endearing attempts to pick up women? I think that was really more important in a wingman.

Well, when you're playing the game for the 10th time, you tend to focus on getting a 100% kills in all missions.

WCP is the hardest game to do this, due to the several multi-wing missions, where you can't tell the other guys to stand down.

I remember a mission in WC1 where if you just hung out by the 'Claw for awhile after launching, two anonymous Raptors have a headon collision for no reason and explode. It wasn't some sort of fluke because it would happen every time in that particular mission. Anyone else notice that?

Haha, I used to get that a lot. You'd here the tell-tale sound of shields draining, and then suddenly the music would go all sad. So if I'd just launched and started to hear it, I'd hit the autopilot as quickly as possible, to save them. ;)

Anyway, my list would be:

WC1: Best = Iceman, Worst = Knight (no contest!)
WC2: Best = Shadow (until that unfortunate incident), Worst = Hobbes (he must have become quite pally with the search and rescue team by the end)
WC3: Best = Vagabond, Worst = Maniac (he's just too uncontrollable)
WC4: Best = Primate, Worst = Catscratch
WCP: Best = Maverick, Worst = Roulette (she's so annoying! "Vvvvvvwould you like to take a zpin wiz Rrrrrrroulette?")

The answer is Primate. He is the very best wingmen available in WC when it comes to gameplay. I guess that, from a storyline point of view, the best one would be Blair.

I find Spirit in WC2 to have a tendency to shoot my own ship with the Epee and other things, I don't like her a wingman. She was fine on WC1.

Iceman is the best Wingman of WC1. Two hornets against two Kilrathi cruisers with Jalthi escort and he can do it.

Best:

WC1 - Hunter
WC2 - Hobbes
WC3 - Hobbes
WC4 - Maniac
WCP - Maverick

Worst:

WC1 - Maniac
WC2 - Spirit
WC3 - Flash
WC4 - Catscratch
WCP - Stiletto

Awww... i really liked Roulette... Maverick as the best, are you trying to be funny? He gets no kills at all, and is only there for two missions.

(100th post YAY!):p

Not to commit blasphemy, but I'm gonna judge this solely on the games - and at the moment, I'm going to have to award the best wingman to...

Laurel Buckley (Cobra.)

Every notion she had about the Kilrathi turned out to be true. She knew them well, she certaintly knew how to kill them.

She is extremely loyal despite going through years of torment and psychological damage. She is noble in that she rescues Flint if you decide not to go after her.

I'm going through the game again right now, selecting her often - and she has yet to receive one cm of damage from the enemy (yes I know this might be for plot purposes...)

Blair has differences with many of the pilots onboard the Victory, (Maniac, Flash & Flint) but Cobra is the one that in spite of it never disobeys an order and still can get the job done with a ruthless efficiency.

(Post 50 for me, YAY!)

In theory every type of mission has a best wingman. For example, Maniac is good on scramble, Cobra is good on escort, and so on.

Except for Primate, who is the best for every mission.

Dude, you posted this a while ago but it still cracks me up, I'm starting to agree with you actually:

"Dude, Primate is by far the best wingman of the history of WC. Because he wonders if he'll negotiate with them today every single time." - Delance

In my previous post i didn't write the worst wignmen i had. I'm quite new around here, and being here made me want to play the kilrathi saga again, and i've chose my worst wingman in wc1.

I had to play the mission of Bhurak Starkiller 4 times, because the 3 previous times i was killed by my wingman!!! So i choose Paladin as the worst wingman of wc1.

"Auch! He caught me with me kilt down!" was a rather common message... :p

(even if I misspelled the exclamation at the beginning)
