A silly challenge...

A silly challenge for the community...

So I've noticed that a number of folks in the community here, like myself, have recently (i.e., within the last couple of years) had kids. I don't know about you, but I'm up to my elbows in reading children's stories. One of the worst at getting stuck in your head is the alphabet book... "A is for apple, that I like to bite; B is for Bear, that I cuddle at night..." and so forth.

It gave me a silly idea. Let's make a Wing Commander-themed children's alphabet rhyme. Find something in the WC universe for each letter, and put it in similar verse. I'll start...

A is for Arrow, that flies so fast.
B is for Broadsword, with armor to last.

...

E is for Excalibur, a ship built to last
and F is for Ferret, which flies very fast.

(We'll first run into a problem at N. Then Q. Finally X. I too have had this thought before...and now that damn song is in my head...

A is for Arrow, A-A-Arrow and B is for Bearcat, B-B-Bearcat. C is for Concordia, C-C-Condordia and D is for Dralthi, D-D-Dralthi / ♫ / E is for Excalibur, E-E-Excalibur and F is for Ferret, F-F-Ferret. G is for Gilgamesh, G-G-Gilgamesh and H is for Hhriss, H-H-Hhriss / ♫ / I is Indomitable, I-Indomitable and J is for Jalthi, J-J-Jalthi. K is for Kamekh, K-K-Kamekh and L is for Lumbari, L-L-Lumbari / ♫ / M is for Morningstar, M-M-Morningstar and N is for Nephilim, N-N-Nephilim. O is for Orca, O-O-Orca and P is for Piranha, P-P-Piranha / ♫ / Q is for Qual'lat, Qu-Qu-Qual'lat and R is for Ralari, R-R-Ralari. S is for Strakha, S-S-Strakha and T is for Tigershark, T-T-Tigershark /♫ / U is for U Thant, U-U-U Thant and V is for Vampire, V-V-Vampire. W is for Waterloo, W-W-Waterloo and X is for Xytani, X-X-Xytani. / ♫ / Y is for Yorktown, Y-Y-Yorktown and Z is for Zu'kara, Z-Z-Zukara / ♫ / )

E is for Excalibur, a ship built to last
and F is for Ferret, which flies very fast.

It doesn't have to be ships. You could use Niven for N: "M is for McAullife, who's skyhook met ground, N is for Niven, where Downtown was found."

G is for Gettysburg, a mutiny not soon forgot
H is for Hakaga, a carrier with six launch bays to blast

I is for ImRec, the best missile there is, no doubt
J is for Jalthi, with six guns up front, watch out!

And just to repeat:

M is for McAullife, whose skyhook touched ground
N is for Niven, where Downtown was found

G is for Gettysburg, a mutiny not soon forgot
H is for Hakaga, a carrier with six launch bays to blast

Uh...that doesn't rhyme........

O is for Orsini, where Blair was shipped out in Three
and P is for Pasqual, Melek's lair, you see.

Still don't know a good one for Q.

Q is for Quasar, ole Charybdis was one
R is for Ralatha, just look at her guns

And as for the one that doesn't rhyme - how about this:

H is for Hakaga, Thrakhath's vengeance they brought

S is for Strakha, the foe that keeps hidden
T is for Tolwyn, hero or villain?

And for those who object to Wing Commander's rather casual disregard for cosmology, an alternative Q:
Q is for Quinson, who saw the war's end,
R is for Rapier, the pilot's best friend

OK, compiling it so far, with my own, rhyming version of G and H:

A is for Arrow, that flies so fast.
B is for Broadsword, with armor to last.

C is for Centurion, a price quite steep
D is Drayman, who's trust you keep

E is for Excalibur, a ship built to last
and F is for Ferret, which flies very fast.

G is for Gwenhyvar, a sinister surprise,
H is for Hvar'kann, of unthinkable size.

I is for ImRec, the best missile there is, no doubt
J is for Jalthi, with six guns up front, watch out!

K is for Kilrathi, they sure like to fight
L is for Lance, he saved us from the night

M is for McAullife, whose skyhook touched ground
N is for Niven, where Downtown was found

O is for Orsini, where Blair was shipped out in Three
and P is for Pasqual, Melek's lair, you see.

Q is for Quasar, ole Charybdis was one
R is for Ralatha, just look at her guns

...or...

Q is for Quinson, who saw the war's end,
R is for Rapier, the pilot's best friend

S is for Strakha, the foe that keeps hidden
T is for Tolwyn, hero or villain?

U
V

W
X

Y
Z

Keep 'em coming!

U is for U Thant, a Drayman. Why care?
V is for Vampire, the last fighter of Blair. (Go look it up)

I think the U Thant was an Exeter...

... and was Blair's last fighter a Vampire? He flies a Tiger Shark in the relay station insertion mission. Does he fly again after that?

Checking....aw hell. You're right...it is an Exeter. So it should read: "U is for U Thant, a destroyer. Why care?"

... and was Blair's last fighter a Vampire? He flies a Tiger Shark in the relay station insertion mission. Does he fly again after that?

He shows up in the reinforcement wing when you're getting ready to take out the stabilization towers at Kilrah. At least that's what it says in the strategy guide, and we all know those things occasionally contain typos, so it's possible I could be wrong.

I don't have it here, but it must be... obviously he shows up in a Marine LC... (escorted by Vampires.)
