    My Brush with Greatness

Why am I thinking of him delivering that question with the same tone of voice he used back in one of the WC3 outtakes? "Hey, isn't that the guy from Star Wars?"

    Mandarins, heroes in another timeline...

This is the same universe which had nanomachines kill whole planets, despite the fact that the nanites probably have fairly limited mobility as well, and had to reproduce inside the cells of dying hosts (as well as those which it didn't kill). Nukes only hit one area - the virus bomb, if...

Whatever happened to the Double Helix?

They also show up in the Secret Ops fiction - Zero specifically refers to them and the filters required to translate datastreams from the DH, and how a certain someone fried his brains because his ideas didn't work out in practice. An example of 'letting others experiment before risking your...

    Merry Xmas 2007 Wingnuts!

Ah, THERE'S Santa Kat. I was expecting him to show up.

    Merry Xmas 2007 Wingnuts!

Happy Holidays! I was expecting to see Santa Kat though.

    First to Terra

If he recognized it, he didn't show much sign of it in the book. He was relieved that the nukes hadn't been launched, but he didn't seem to be thinking too much about the matter, or why it hadn't been launched. Or at least, that's how I'm reading that paragraph that the quote came from, as...

    Memory Lane

I think I -might- have a log of that last RP. Oh God, that was a hoot. And to think, that was the SECOND time that the ship'd blown up. The first time I believe the TCS Destiny crashed into another of his supercarriers, like a week or two before, and it took a while for everyone to calm down...

    Lexington Class

Well, the Official Guide to WC1 and WC2 indicates that everyone on the Claw at the time (Halcyon, Shotglass, etc) was a casualty, minus whatever pilots were on patrol at the time and Hunter who was in Kilrathi space when she was shot down. Oh, and Vanderman who had ejected and was spending his...

Killer Bees. What was their fate?

The airframe's the same, the guns are the same (still M61 Vulcan cannons), and most of the hardpoints are the same. Most of the changes are internal - the avionics have been upgraded, which allow most of those other weapons you mentioned to be mounted and used; the hardware that controls them...

    First to Terra

He knows that they didn't get the strontium-90 nukes off, nor a second wave of antimatter missiles, and is very thankful that this was the case. He didn't appear to be brooding on the matter, given that he was busy thinking about how many people had been lost due to the civilian government as...

    First to Terra

Yes, I meant Baron Jukaga the second time. And Jukaga was 'in command' at that point, albeit more as a figurehead than anything - remembering that the Emperor had ordered Thrakath to get rid of Jukaga somewhere along the way.

Finally! Wing Commander books have arrived!

Well, that's part of why I have redundant copies now - although when I started, it was to ship copies to the deprived, the way I did Wing Commander CCG starter kits.

    Piranha... bites!

That's the reason I love the Star*Soldier manual - it actually shows the same fighter... but with its variants, so the changes from the WC3 Arrow to the WC4 Arrow actually make sense in context, and show why one was so heavily armed compared to another; they were the same family of fighter, but...

Killer Bees. What was their fate?

Except that the F-16's weapons have basically stayed the same the past twenty years - refitting its data bus and avionics isn't going to be exactly the same as swapping out the guns to replace them with another hardpoint. There's a limit to what can be done with the same frame... and the...

    Piranha... bites!

Or else it just had better range than the Vampire and Arrow Interceptors, which meant it could fly long patrols whereas the latter two would have to be kept fairly close to home-base, lest they run out of O2 or other essentials for the pilot. Or else they were easier to maintain, which would...

Finally! Wing Commander books have arrived!

No, don't fold back the cover - the problem is that some of them seemed to have sub-par bindings, which meant they fell apart even sitting on the shelf. Others I haven't had an issue with, but some of them just seemed to disintegrate.

    First to Terra

IIRC, he mentions it only in passing (to himself) on p.293 that 'the only bright spot was that for some reason the Cats had not launched a wave of strontium-clad thermonukes. England had been spared as well, though it seemed at the moment ot be an almost selfish thing to think about'. He...

Killer Bees. What was their fate?

Well, if we PRETEND that Blair only flies on first-line carriers, then maybe this explanation works. Otherwise, it's more likely that they're in squadrons we don't see on the same ship... or that they're on another carrier's complement, elsewhere. Of course, we know the 'Blair flies on...

Finally! Wing Commander books have arrived!

Of End Run and Fleet Action, accumulated from used bookstores when everyone and their sister was looking for them, yes. I can STILL get them, but I've got enough around here that I've been (very easily) able to replace copies that 'wore out'.

    Memory Lane

I started back in high school, just before the Internet really exploded. And, as it happens, just after I'd started playing Wing Commander on a friend's PC (since I didn't have EGA capability, much less the VGA that WC3 would later use). At first, all the interaction went on via newsgroups, at...
