    Nice work! (episode 2 spoilers)

I'd also like to point out any time you hear a saxophone it's a REAL INSTRUMENT. I recorded all the saxophone tracks myself, and there will be a lot more of them in the future. To my knowledge, the only other Wing Commander game that ever used any real instruments was WC4 in a few cutscenes...

    Suggestions for Standoff

I guess those clips I sent you to try to do this didn't work out then? Too bad... Yea, we've been trying to fix this, but it hasn't been looking good. The closest we can do right now is jazz standards for the cutscenes in the rec room (and there's going to be a lot more in future episodes).

    Nice work! (episode 2 spoilers)

Why thank you. More of the same kind of orchestral and jazz music to come from me, although for episodes 3 and 4 the inflight music gets something of a revamp. Episode 5 will also be a nice suprise.... but I won't say what. I'm not sure, but I believe Daniel is done at this point (he's...

    Don't be this guy

I wouldn't be suprised... there's a lot of nutzos out there. But I do agree with Q... it does seem kinda pointless to talk about some guy who has absolutely no relevence to anything...

    problem with sec ops/standoff

I don't think it makes a difference between the 2, but I usually use 95. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I beleive the game was designed on the 95 platform, and not 98. While I don't think it makes a difference, that is why I pick 95, and I've never had an issue.

    Release date announcement #2!

Hey Q... Eder... think we should make a mission where you need to bounce a Gladius to the beat of my military theme? :p

    Release date announcement #2!

I imagine the stuff that'll be holding us up in the next episodes will be the same stuff that held us up for this episode - cutscenes and music. Yes I do take responsibility for being a contributor to the delay between episodes 1 and 2 with the music, but hey... its a lot of work :p And...

    Favourite WC music

Hmm - difficult question. WC4 had the best mood music - it fit the plotline and the essence of the game perfectly in my opinion. That said, I think WC1 and WC2 (which share a good majority of their soundtracks) really created the 'Wing Commander' sound and were perfect for the introductions...

    Suggestions for UE 2

I don't know - it seems like we've reached the limit of what the engine can do at this point. We've modded it and adapted it and fought with it non-stop, and it seems like we can't go much farther. By today's standards, the engine is very out of date and as much as we mod it, soon enough...

    Suggestions for UE 2

I believe I speak for everyone when I say "TO HELL WITH THE VISION ENGINE!!!!" Seriously, all of us are fed up with the SO (vision) engine's limitations at this point. Its way too old, and the lack of a source code makes making any additions or changes very very VERY difficult. Standoff...

SFX Gets Early Movie Preview (January 15, 2005)

Yea seriously. WCIV is my favorite game, but if you ask me the HUD, models, textures... basically everything about the game play was the worst in the series. The story, movies, and thematic elements were so great they made up for all the losses of the game play for me, and made it my favorite...

    Ugliest Ship

I'd say the WCM rapier or the Devestator from WCP. I know its a heavy bomber, but to me, it sorta looks like how it flies - a brick. The big gun was cool, but the design still never felt right to me.

A New Sound from Deep Space...

You can always do the overdubbing, but it depends on the style of music. Certain styles that lend themselves to a certain feel or groove make it easier do overdub. For example, if I were going to record a jazz combo, of say, sax, piano, bass, and drums, you could do the overdubbing and the...

A New Sound from Deep Space...

I think your right ace. I'm not looking to do MIDI rendering professionally - just well enough for a composer. Most composers I know are very comfortable submitting demos to publishers using programs of the quality I'm considering, so this is the logical place to stop worrying about that. I...

A New Sound from Deep Space...

Yes, but this is a different scenario. As I said, it works fine with the jazz stuff because the part is written for one instrument to stand out. I also know that on occasion, a real violin may be used with a string sample to make it sound more real, for example. However, to replace the guitar...

A New Sound from Deep Space...

Unfortionately, probably not. Even if we could sync it up, it would sound out of place. Using one real instrument like that in the background wouldn't fit with everything else being synthesized. Its a different story with the jazz stuff - the sax is a solo instrument that's supposed to stick...

A New Sound from Deep Space...

The things I'm looking to change for the final version of the Overture with the new sound set are as follows: Distortion guitar - lower volume throughout, and better sample Toms in last section - softer (along with guitar) Brass in last section (its horns and trombones) - louder I didn't...

    Kilrathi Music

So far my experiment has included a lot of brass - especially trombones. Trombone's can get that really nasty, loud, brash, low brass sound so I've been using them a lot along with distortion guitar (in some ways the nasty, raucus sound it can get is similar to the trombones). I'm using some...

A New Sound from Deep Space...

Alright, thanks. Rendering was never my strength, so its nice to know a little bit more detail about what I'm getting into. I'll look into those sites you mentioned. Thanks. And yes, I know the sound set can only do so much. I have a lot of confidence in my writing and my orchestration...
