What do you HATE (or at least dislike) in each Wing Commander game?

This is a good thing. From a game design perspective, I would not want the player to act in an unrealistic manner (conserving missiles - like you do in WC3).

Prophecy Cutscene can only see part of image

@Getius If I could ask: what files did you use, and in what order did you install them? I want to give Prophecy another go too. It has been a decade, maybe more since I played it.

Wings of Heroes: Confederation Starfighters 2654-2674 by J. "Primate" Allen

Perhaps...the Superhellcat is intended to Black Lance only...the player won't fly it. The Morningstar is my vision of an advanced stike fighter that you would get in WC3 starting with the Ariel missions. It should not be better the the Excalibur, but better then the others. Maybe it would be OP...

Are there other "space carrier" novels out there with not too much "weird" elements but instead grounded military sci-fi?

I thought the X-Wing series was good...but more for teenagers. I liked them at the time, but when I went back to them later I felt I had outgrown them. Not trying to sound like a snooty ass and no offence intended. Zahn's books on the other hand still hold up!

Reconciling Fighter and Capital ship stats across the WC games

There is confusion. In the U.S When something is given a numerical addition, it indicates a completely new airframe (or "weapons system" as the military likes to call them). The F-35 (Lightning II) is in no way shape or form an advanced version of the P-38 (Lightning)!! Now the U.S has screwed...

Reconciling Fighter and Capital ship stats across the WC games

Well, the spaceframes of the WC1 or WC2 starfighters could just be upgraded with better shields, engines, guns, gun capacitors etc. Only bombers seem to have really advanced from WC1 to WC3/4 in terms of what the actual spaceframe brings to the table. The Thunderbolt is really quite pathetic for...

Reconciling Fighter and Capital ship stats across the WC games

Not a bad strategy at all. Aggressively switching to your rear turret when you have an enemy on your six is highly recommended as well. Leech missiles work quite well too if you just play on Ace.

Watching a Let's Play of Saga now. The Sabre mission.

Oh boy. No way to reconcile this stuff then. 😥 Thanks for your work though @tarsus

Reconciling Fighter and Capital ship stats across the WC games

I would expect that from such a small, low mass fighter for sure. As an aside, don't you think the Razor fighter from WC4 owes a lot to the Ferret?

Reconciling Fighter and Capital ship stats across the WC games

A lot of things are (sort of) coming together. With @Bandit LOAF informing me that the initial intention of the designers of WC3 were to have the game take place a decade after WC2, it makes sense we see a big jump in shielding in that game. But it seems that armour, speed and maneuverability...

Are there other "space carrier" novels out there with not too much "weird" elements but instead grounded military sci-fi?

I shit you not guys, this is the opening of the first paragraph of Space Carrier Avalon: New Amazon System, Castle Federation 18:00 July 5, 2735 Earth Standard On approach to DSC-001 Avalon Wing Commander Kyle Roberts did not enjoy being flown by someone else. It was always a struggle for the...

Wings of Heroes: Confederation Starfighters 2654-2674 by J. "Primate" Allen

I am doing this in the hopes of laying some groundwork for possible WC4 Remastered mods. And maybe a future WC3 remaster (The Morningstar). 🤞

Reconciling Fighter and Capital ship stats across the WC games

The maneuverability thing is definitely incorrect. It does not take an Epee 18 seconds to turn 180 degrees!! Okay, so durasteel was a lot lighter then? So you could pack on more? Thoughts @Bandit LOAF?

Reconciling Fighter and Capital ship stats across the WC games

Hey gang, By the thread title I mean how are we supposed to reconcile the stats in the earlier games, when the later games give such massive increases to (some) ship stats ;maneuverability and armour especially. The Rapier's 10 degrees/sec maneuverability and 7cm of shielding cannot be...

What do you HATE (or at least dislike) in each Wing Commander game?

Yeah, but with the FMV, my guess is that using live actors cut into the budget. Can't pay Mark Hammill to be around for 1 month of shooting! I don't know the economics too well, but my guess is simple voice acting would have cost a lot less in 1993 then actually having to pay actors to show up...

    New take on Hellcat V

I notice the engines are different in the WC4 gameplay as well. There are 4 smaller ones around the central one. Interesting!
