    Starsector Wing Commander project

Hmm, if anything I would think the cruiser class was underrepresented. The Gettysburg, Plunkett and Concordia are all large enough that they really are capitals (the Concordia in particular is described as "the largest battleship in Confed's fleet"). Arguably the Hades wound count as a capital...

    3D Printed Privateer ships.

EDIT: My original post was me saying that you were totally right, until I was looking through the Orion models and saw that one of them (TUG-TO) used the smaller, squashed version from the ship dealer. This doesn't necessarily mean anything (in the first place we don't even know what most of the...

Is there a reason you made the Waterloo a destroyer?

    3D Printed Privateer ships.

All of the ships in that post are from the equipment dealer screen, so CLNKGEAR, TUGGEAR, FIGHTGER and MRCHGEAR. They're also in scale with the dealer hangar. The Orion z-axis distortion is interesting and I don't think anyone has ever noticed that before. I wonder if it was to fit the art on...

    Starsector Wing Commander project

It gets stated a lot but it's worth remembering that the Crossbow was originally designed as a corvette but repurposed as a bomber:

There are turret mines, although I'm not sure if they have anything other than station keeping thrusters, if that. Fighter screening is generally handled by ships like corvettes and destroyers. They're also shown doing things like launching chaff to break up missile strikes. It's never stated...

    3D Printed Privateer ships.

By the way, this made me curious to see if the ships in the ship equipment scene were to the same scale. It seems that they are? Also, it seems like I was wrong: the landing pad is not scaled to the ship dealer ships, my importer was rescaling them and they're actually 10x too big. Once...

Are these going to be pilotable or carrier fighter squadrons?

    3D Printed Privateer ships.

DD_FIGHT, DD_TUG and DD_MERCH and the landing pad is ND-LPAD. I noticed the Galaxy issue after I posted, here's a revised version. And here is the blend file I used to make it:

    3D Printed Privateer ships.

Sadly not! I found static images for the ships however, which makes me suspect that they simply prerendered them and then composited them on, rather than rendering them as one image. Edit: That said, I had a suspicion that if you put the ships from the dealer into the landing pad, they would...

After Action Report: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (June 6, 2025)

This is (arguably) true of the main theme but having listened through the soundtrack I can't find any similarities. In the first place Wing Commander is pretty active and jaunty. I'm not well versed in musical terminology but I think it would be called melodic? It has that in common with a lot...

    Pirates with capital ships?

My memory is a bit off; the game text files don't have a separate Military faction but they do have a separate Police one! Of course in the final game there are no separate police, only the Military (CIS). And of course the Guild aren't mere pirates at all, they're s :) It's a shame that...

    3D Printed Privateer ships.

It looks pretty good. The cockpit is a bit cramped, but that's on point for its origins. If I were scaling it myself I would probably use the ship dealer as the primary source, because it's the only time that we see the three main player ships directly together, with a figure to scale...

    Pirates with capital ships?

It's worth noting that neither Blair nor the Lexington crew seem particularly surprised that the pirates have frigates, though. The novel goes into some detail to describe them as being "common as dirt." To me the Razor from the same game is more interesting because it's the only time we see...

WC Uprez Unity3d Doodle! (Heavy GIF Use, Mobile Users Beware!)

I certainly haven't because I voted for it as Fan Game of the year :) I'm really glad that he open sourced it and I feel people should be making better use of that, including me. I have some experience with Unity but it's not my favorite engine to use, especially when compiling.

    Pirates with capital ships?

The pirate clans in The Darkening aren't really "pirates" in the sense that they are from the other games and the political system is very different. It's also not really clear how they compare as "capital ships" other than being very large (which is true of other ships like freighters)...

Not that I'm aware of, but we do have the scenes from the intro with the Tarsus and Talon to scale. https://www.wcnews.com/wcpedia/F-38_Talon

    3D Printed Privateer ships.

If you want to compare the (buyable) ships directly you can also use the ship dealer models. https://download.wcnews.com/files/priv1/3D/DD_DELR1.zip Actually there are two versions but the first is the one that was actually used in game:

The only ship we have hard numbers for are the Dralthi at 28 meters, and that's assuming that's it's the same size as the one from Claw Marks. At least for the player ships you can scale them using the cockpit models: https://download.wcnews.com/files/priv1/3D/CLUNKPIT.zip...

Zero Pilots Given (April 9, 2025)

I saw the news post about this from several years ago but completely forgot about it so thanks for reminding me to look into this series. And it's great! Fully 3D gameflow (that no Wing Commander game had!) Dynamic music (that I'm pretty sure is directly from Pacific Strike!) AI that behaves...
