G'mar System, Mission 3 (532.9)

Briefing Intro: (Movie Filename -- 1530.WVE)

Wilford: As you were. A live feed's coming in from a spy eye positioned near the main Alien base. You all need to see this.
Finley: Our analysis indicates this is one of two seemingly identical ships that attacked the Kilrathi Fleet in the H'rekka system. This one appears to be in dry-dock. We think the Cats damaged this Alien ship before they were wiped out. This is what a concentrated plasma weapon can do to a fleet. Either we stop this Ship Killer or Midway is next on the menu. Commander.
CAG: Pilots, please check your ICIS.
ICIS Text: Your Alpha Wing will escort a marine landing craft to the dry dock at NAV 1. Provide cover for the LC while the marines dock and attempt to secure the vessel. When the Ship Killer is secured, you will escort the Marine Craft back to the Midway.

Briefing Exit: (Movie Filename -- 1536.WVE)

CAG: Intelligence reports indicate enemy opposition will probably be heavy. Watch your backs out there, people. Dismissed.

Takeoff Scene: Panther (Movie Filename -- 2541.WVE)

[Fly Mission, G'mar 3 - Ship Killer Acquisition]

[Midway]
<Midway> Take out the defenses around the ship killer or the marines will be cut to ribbons before they land.
<Maniac> Let's see them try and stop us!

[Nav 1]
<Maestro> Whoa! That thing's bigger than I thought!
<Maniac> I hear that all the time!
<Maestro> Sure you do, Maniac. Then you wake up.
<Maniac> Plebe.
<Maestro> Let's wax those little turrets, Casey!
<Maniac>Where are those Marines?!!
<Marine LC> This is Marine One: we're moving in!

[If turrets survived]
<Marine LC> We've got to head in now, but it looks like their defenses are still intact. Wish us luck!

[If you destroyed all turrets]
<Marine LC> Good job on those defenses, flyboys. We're heading in.

<Dekker> This is Marine One: we're in!
<Spyder> Control, this is Delta Lead. We've got some sort of faint homing signal coming from nearby.
<Midway (Finley)> Delta Lead, go ahead and check it out, but then report back to me.
<Spyder> Lieutenant Commander, it's some kind of distress beacon. My computer says it's from a Confed ship, but it's certainly not a newer model. I'm bringing it home.
<Dekker> Resistance is heavy. Watch our backs.
<Dekker> We're almost to the control deck!
<Dekker> Uh-oh! They've fired up the main engines!
<Maniac> It's starting to MOVE!
<Midway (Finley)> The ship killer is preparing to attack! Take her out, Casey!
<Midway (Finley)> Direct your fire toward the vessel's main engines. You've got to take them out before she powers up her plasma weapon.
<Midway (Finley)> Our readings indicate the ship killer's plasma weapon is warming up. Direct your fire on their engines right now. Go! Go! Go!
<Dekker> Alpha Wing, we have secured the Ship Killer's firing control.
<Dekker> Opposition's pretty heavy, but we can handle it.
<Dekker> Ok, people: this vessel is secure! Our casualties are heavy, but not as bad as theirs: they fought to the last. Send us another LC with some backup. Marine One is coming home.
<Midway> Good work, Mr. Casey. You can bring your people home now.
<Midway (Finley)> Here's some news, Lieutenant: Delta Wing's retrieved an outlying distress beacon. It's Confed in origin, but not one of the newer models. Even so, it might help us find out a bit more about what we're up against here. And... you're cleared to land.
<Midway (Rachel)> Hey. I took the scout data we have on the unidentified aggressors and fed it into the mission profile for the simulator. It should give you an accurate recreation of their technology and fighting tactics. I'm hoping that it'll also give you an extra edge the next time you meet up with them.

Scene - Rec Room (Movie Filename -- 1560.WVE)

Maniac: You see, you don't know. You don't know, because Blair would fly on MY wing. Okay? Because Tolwyn, Eisen, they always... they'd check with the Maniac. You a Border Worlder? Come here for a second. Casey! My only friend. My only friend. Come here. Come here. Let's celebrate. Let's celebrate.
Casey: What are we celebrating?
Maniac: My voluntary demotion. I am no longer a squadron commander.
Casey: But I thought you always dreamed of running your own squadron?
Maniac: Dreamed? Yeah. Ha! It's more like a nightmare! Pilots whining all day about stats. You got the CAG screaming for results. It's all pain, no gain. Here. Let's toast! Let's toast. Maniac and Casey! All right. To the free, and easy life, of the Wing Commander.
Anderson: [loudspeaker] Lieutenant Casey. You are wanted in the ready room, at once!
Maniac: They got that medal for you, kid, huh? Well, give the CAG a kiss for me, all right?
Casey: Are you going to be all right?
Maniac: I'm the Maniac. Of course I'm going to be all right. Listen. Hey, Casey, listen. You take my advice, all right? They're giving you the medals. You rake them in. When they want you to be squadron commander you tell them to shove it! All right? All right. Chalk up another one for the Maniac.

Scene - Ready Room
CAG: Attention!
Wilford: Congratulations, Lieutenant. Its not every day a member of my command receives the Confed Flying Cross. Wear it with pride. Its well deserved.
Casey: Yes, Sir. Thank you, Sir.
Wilford: Assembly dismissed!
CAG: Good job.
Casey: Thank you.
Blair: Well done.
Casey: Thanks!
Stiletto: A Confed Flying Cross and a promotion to the Midway's newest "Bad Ass" squadron. Not a bad day's work.
Casey: Hey, you guys got promoted to the Wolf Pack with me. Where we will no doubt be hopelessly lost in your shadow. Let's celebrate!

Scene - Briefing Room
Finley: I downloaded these files from the data banks of the Ship Killer we just captured.
CAG: So, you're saying the wormhole these Aliens are using as their invasion point is artificial?
Finley: Well, artificially induced over a potential anomaly in their system which allows them access into Confed space. It took massive planning to pull this off, even with their technology. Here, look. After also analyzing the data from the beacon, Tactical thinks that the Aliens' initial foray into this system was recon only. I don't think that they expected to find us here. In any case, they didn't bring their whole fleet in.
Casey: There's more?
Finley: Look closer at their structure. They're clearly reinforcing it for a permanent passage.
Casey: And those plumes?
Finley: Judging from the IR emissions they could be the equivalent of cooling towers for the power array. The amount of heat generated to hold open a physical anomaly this size must be massive.
Casey: So, what would happen if we took those out?
Finley: It could cause an overload... but I don't yet know enough about their technology to be sure.
CAG: It might not matter. Judging from this, the towers appear heavily shielded. Probably take a full-on torpedo hit. We need to find a way to shut the whole array down. And soon.
Casey: No problem. We have our new Plasma Weapon.
Finley: Yes, problem. Even if we worked around the clock to get this thing to even work with our technology-- which I'm not saying we can-- I'm not sure we won't blow ourselves to Kingdom Come the first time we try to use it. Be sure.
CAG: This may be the only chance we've got.
