The Blue and the Gray Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

There's a pair of new fighter renders from Scooby's Wing Commander hangar, and both sport the heavy metallic colors that have become characteristic of his designs. The first model is the complete version of the beefed up Arena-inspired Arrow. All the extra armor that often makes its way into his craft really fits well with the Arena style of ship design. There's also a pair of Scimitars that have just been completed. You only get a side view in this shot here, but the acceleration absorber pods are unmistakable!

There's some pieces of the Mk V (WC3/4) Arrow along side with a couple from Arena, plus some personal liberties. The intakes were the most frustrating on where exactly to put them.

A pair of Scimitars: There's two variants, the twin mass drivers and a twin mass driver & twin heavy mass driver

Bolt from the Blue Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Scooby's latest fighter design is a personal take on the Arrow light fighter. Besides the usual personal touches, the "Bolt" borrows from the Arrow V from Wing Commander III/IV as well as WC Arena's various incarnations. The model was given the usual blue/grey texturing treatment and fits nicely with Scooby's other designs. You can find more of his work in previous updates.

Kiowan Krell Gets Its Fifteen Minutes of Fame Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Scooby has revisited the Tri-System once again to model a Kiowan pirate clan fighter. The Krell isn't an especially powerful nor well-known ship in the Wing Commander universe, but Scooby's done a really good job of modeling and texturing this craft. It's certainly fits right in with his other Privateer 2 models!
The Krell is the Kiowan pirate clan’s heaviest fighter. While the Krell’s gull wing design is imposing, it is easily the lowest quality pirate heavy fighter in the Tri-System. Facing Ashearers or Tacons, the Krell comes in a distant fourth. Because of this, it is more rarely dispatched on traditional missions than the fighters of the other groups… but it is more common on patrols.

---------------------------------------

This is another remake of a really old model of mine ('04) based on the Krell. I know the wings aren't rotated nearly enough, but back then I just had one picture to go off of I think. Anyways I like them this way anyways. 2 mass drivers, 2 particles, 1 stormfire (which I can switch out for a dust cannon if needed to). I really liked how well the gun/engine hull smoothly connects to the wings.

Duress Impresses Against Energetic Expanse Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Here's another look at Scooby's sleek Duress/Loki model. The ship is looking fantastic as it pulls away from yellow swirls in space. It looks like something that would fit right into Privateer 2. The lead fighter's wingman is also silhouetted nicely in the background. Hopefully we see these ships pop up in more wallpapers and fan projects in the future!

Shipbuilder Makes New Fighter Under Duress Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

ScoobyDoo has added another Tri-System vessel to his fleet. This time it's a popular light fighter that Scooby has renamed the Loki. In this case it's been beefed up a bit with twice as many regular guns and a hot Stormfire on the ventral side. I think the textures are looking spot on, but Scooby may yet tweak the coloring and finder details a bit more. The light blue highlights look even better than the strong teal overtones in the original, in my opinion. Someone could make quite the P2 mod with this fleet!
Also the Loki (the Duress ["duress" is more of a verb than a name]). I had to take some personal liberties with it, mainly the intakes and gun mounts (2 particles, 2 mass drivers, 1 stormfire). I wish I had seen Hudson's version of the Duress earlier on. It's about the same length as the Hellcat, although (I) fixed the cockpit a bit, was way too big for the ship.

I originally had the a mass driver there. I was going to put vents where the mass drivers were. Then I was debating on deleting that section where the stormfire is now. Also fixed the cockpit a bit, was way too big for the ship.

Hellespont Thugs Would Have a Field Day Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

ScoobyDoo has created another pair of exotic Confed fighters ready to join the fight... or pirate craft eager to pillage the Border Worlds. The first appears like a boxy missile boat that shares characteristics with both the Thunderbolt and Wasp. It also has the engine pods that resemble those on the Condor class multi purpose shuttle. Also up for review is a beefed up variant of the Razor that Scooby calls the Raven. Its six fins/wings certainly make it look more aggressive though!
The nose was taken and modified from the Thuds. I was drawing so many blanks with this model. I made it back in '09 but wanted to go through the list alphabetically. Someone just mentioned it and realized ehhh, it's close enough to done, one less to worry about later.

Capships Lined Up; New Raptor Takes Flight Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Here's a correction to something we mentioned last week. The collage of ships made by ScoobyDoo don't represent all the vessels that he's made - those were just the fighters! He's produced a new image that shows his capital fleet, except for the mighty Behemoth. There's a really awesome sense of scale when comparing these larger warships.

Additionally, Scooby's already prepped a new take on the heavy Raptor fighter. His version is especially heavy! It's supposed to suggest a relationship to the Thunderbolt. The later shots even show what a two-seat variant would look like, and he's depicted this design cruising past a slick planetary ring.

Also a variant on the Raptor, a second altered version will be coming as soon as this one is done. Deathsnake had some ideas to return it to wc2-3 era. Right now armament includes 2 heavy mass drivers, 4 heavy? lasers and a stormfire, plus a rear turret. About the same size as the thud.

The texture has a single large bay for a single launch torpedo. Generally I keep the heavy fighters with just one torp. Oh ya, there's quite a bit of Thunderbolt in this model. The whole nose section, the intake section, engine section and even the turret section.

Rapier Spinoff Covers the Carrier Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

ScoobyDoo is back with a new model concept. This one's a lighter - but still nicely hull-plated - variant of the Rapier. It looks like a fast, fun and sporty version. He's artfully composed a scene with it running picket in front of an out-of-focus background warship. There's also a pretty amazing collage of all the Wing Commander-y ships he's built over the years. Look at all those fighters!
Dirk, the little cousin to the Rapier... (I believe I started out with Klav's models that we were going to use for Saga)

Also a top down view of what I've released so far. I think you'll figure out the canon and near-canon ones

Does All That Armor Slow Them Down? Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

ScoobyDoo's got two new models. The first one merges the Excalibur and Dragon fighters, which introduces a new variable into the long-running Dragon vs Excalibur debate. I would imagine the result is like neither the F-103 nor the F-107, however. The other images all depict a sleek late-model variant of the Rapier II. It's described as post-Arena, and the beefy armor fits that era well.

Take a Trip from T'lan Meth to the Tri-System Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

ScoobyDoo has some more exotic Wing Commander ships to share with his fellow fans. The first of today's diverse bunch is a 'mechanized' Piranha that sticks a little closer to its roots than previous versions of the design. He's also made a large capship which takes cues from several different modern WC warships. A couple additional fighters are just in the preliminary stages, but they're already quite recognizable. The starter Straith and popular Duress are both coming along nicely. We're looking forward to seeing how they turn out!

The model's tables need lots of tweaking (speed, shields, armour...etc). I've setup weapons and missile slots so they should be ok.

Plus two P2 models for the future... the Straith and Duress.

Several Swanky Ships Swoop In Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

ScoobyDoo is back with another trio of fancy fighters based on popular Wing Commander designs. The inspiration for these vessels are WC4's Bearcat, the Armada Phantom and Prophecy's Piranha, but each has been updated with his characteristic flair. Check out the impressive hull detail and exquisite weaponry!
Kris [named after the type of dager]: A combination of the Piranha and the SEPECAT Jaguar. Right now I'm working on something special, after that I'll be upgrading the Piranha.

The Other Side of Movie Business Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

You will probably recognize this poster since we've featured it several times before. The below image is the funky Korean poster that features ships that seem to have nothing to do with the film itself.

Well, I recently came across a smaller A4 sized version of this same Korean Movie Poster but the kicker was that it turned out to be double-sided, which is apparently pretty common in asia. So here's the never before seen flipside of that poster!

Of interest on side A is that while it looks like the same as poster seen before this version actually adds a now defunct URL (http://www.woosingcine.com/wing/default.htm) near the credit block! You can take a look at what is left of that website on the internet archives here. Here's the extracted Korean text for which we would be grateful for a proper translation of since the Google Translate version is a little hard to understand. Essentially it's a brief synopsis followed by some info about the cast and crew.

Exotic Designs Hit the Spacelanes Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

ScoobyDoo has put together several more concept renders inspired by a variety of sources. The first is a medium size capship with fighter-carrying ability, and it's followed by a beefier looking take on the Bearcat. The last design is a more unique idea that mixes Wing Commander elements with a Freespace ship. Check out the Ecantonas escorting the frigate!

The Olympia, one of Lar's designs: a frigate with a full hangar. I was aiming for a coast guard setup.

The Cougar, from the earlier post.

Peagasus, one of Aldo's models, scaled down from a FS2 destroyer to a bomber size.

Enigmatic Fighter Fleet Launches Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Deathsnake has posted pictures of the new Ferret, Rapier, Epee, Sabre and Crossbow for use in the Enigma 2666 mod. Additional glimpses of the Morningstar and Broadsword are also coming soon. Each ship has a unified texture style similar to the one made famous by ScoobyDoo. Because of these new advancements, a similar graphical upgrade will need to also be undertaken for the games larger warships. Let Deathsnake know what you think at the CIC Forums.

The Crossbow and Epee needs another texture to match with the other ones and should be a little big shorter :) Morningstar and Broadsword are not done yet. Gilgamesh and Clydesdale follow soon. :) Kilrathi fighters need only new textures, but all capital ships needs an upgrade or a complete new model.

Revamped Warships Swoop In Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

ScoobyDoo's latest models are a large capship hybrid and a sleek fighter update. The "Nova" is a light cruiser that takes the best design aspects of a Fralthi and pairs them with a Tallahassee fuselage. The A-20 Banshee has been polished into a more sleek and solid frame. Both ships look like they mean business!
Light cruiser Nova: some Fralthi, Tallie and FS2's Hecate. I was thinking something on the lines of the Savannah.

Armada's Banshee: I had to put some personal interpretation on it. I didn't want a Demon clone and the original had some really weird mesh designs, the sails, how the wings were barely attached to the hull (probably meant to fold up) and the fish nets on the wingtips. The wings are meant to rotate like the Vampire's engines, but the freespace engine doesn't support thrust vectoring like the Vision engine can, but it's ready to go if needed.

Chirichan Shuttle Goes Back to the Future Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Here's another fun model for Privateer 2 fans. The 28th Century Tri-System Chirichan Shuttle has been reimagined to look more like a conventional 27th Century Terran design. I definitely prefer ScoobyDoo's blue highlights over durasteel to the yellow and green tint.

You can add the P2 SH2A Shuttle, christened as "Aries" to the list.

The primary combat platform of the Chirichan pirate clan. SH2As are used for every type of operation: from average patrol, ordinary commerce and smuggling to direct attacks on Jincilla and military targets. The CIS maintains a SH2A, which it uses for covert operations.

More Historical Planes Wing Commanderized Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Here's some new concept models by ScoobyDoo. Most of his designs are derived from Wing Commander ships, but there are other inspirations as well. The large capship is similar to a late Kilrathi War carrier, and it's followed by something that's not far from a Stiletto. The other designs are more of a cross with real life attack planes a - P-61 Black Widow, F-4 Phantom and "F-19" stealth fighter.

[The carrier] was one of my first models I made (one of the model files dates back to Oct 2004). I've learned one or two things since then and gave it a total makeover. :D

Massive Monolith Gets Modular Makeover Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Scooby Doo has put together a new Monolith concept. Aside from simply being a bigger sharper version of the design from Privateer 2, the ship has a new modular cargo system with a variety of customized transport sections. It can even carry fighters! Such versatility would be super useful on the frontier.
I've changed the monolith's cargo area completely. There's four different detachable modules, a cargo container, a fighter transport, fuel tankers and civilian transport units (with landing bays)

Midway Mockup Seems Solid Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Scooby Doo has produced another pretty concept image. This one has been dubbed the "Coral Sea," and it shows off what a major upgrade to the Midway class carriers might look like. Much of the texturing and design has familiar connections back to the original designs, which are also pictured below. The central gap has also been filled in with additional structure, which makes the ship look super sturdy.
