Gemini Sector RPG Preps Ground Forces Ahead of New Sector Kickoff Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

The Gemini Sector RPG will soon be launching ground actions, so they need some Kilrathi tanks to fight against. We've seen some wild designs in Wing Commander Academy, so we know exotic Kat tanks are certainly a thing. Rear Admiral Tarsus put together four mockups by way of WC1-style VDU graphics. You may or may not be in a position to suggest some names for these, but it's very cool that fans are playing around with the awesome VDU art style. If you'd like to help, visit the CIC Forums. Also, as a reminder, their new sector campaign kicks off tomorrow! Join in the fun!

Hey all you awesome WC fans.

In the Gemini Sector RPG, we may be doing some planetary missions soon. Those missions will be to support some ground forces. I would like some help coming up with the names of the kilrathi land vehicles. Here they are with VDU Images. I leaned in a bit on the Command and Conquer Brotherhood of Nod while making these designs.

  • Kilrathi assault tank, the workhorse. Quad treads and dual offset cannon.
  • Kilrathi missile tank. Spams IR missiles, also it's a hovertank.
  • Kilrathi laser turret. Think of a jalthi fixed to a point... so basically a jalthi
  • Kilrathi flak turret. A tank that drills it's rear into the ground for stability and then fills the air with mass driver flak fire. (it can mine for more ammo)
If you have any semi serious suggestions for names, I would love to hear them.

p.s. the Hak'a'loogie is already taken. ;)

New Gemini Sector RPG Kickoff This Weekend Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

The Wing Commander Gemini Sector RPG is about to kick off a brand new campaign! They will be launching into the Nitir Sector soon, so it's a great time for new pilots to join up. This RPG has really grown over the last few years as they've leapt from the web to Discord. Rear Admiral Tarsus has put a lot of work in to creating animated mission briefings - plus there are bonus animations for things like autopilot and destroying a fighter. The whole production has a lot of heart. Visit their website for more information or hit up Tarsus!

Hello all you beautiful Wing Commander fans.

The Gemini Sector RPG team is starting a new campaign in the Nitir Sector.

Our events calendar is available on geminisector.wikidot.com and we need pilots. Trust me, I am going to throw a real challenge at the players this time.

Also, the combat engine has had some minor cosmetic enhancements that will be revealed this Sunday. The game is Sunday at 11:00 am EDT, come and join. This weekend the crew will stop some Dorkathi slave ships.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Destroyers and Corvettes Duke It Out Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Let's slide into this weekend with a nice painting from Rear Admiral Tarsus. He has a really simplistic art style that still manages to convey a lot. The Gilgamesh and Venture class ships are very distinct, as are the burning Ralatha and Kamekh. I would love to actually see this battle go down!

Edited 5/29 with fighters, ordnance and more!

Wing Commander 3 Campaign Set to Stream Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Prolific game streamer and dedicated Wingnut Bonkus_Maximus is about to kick off a big series with The Heart of the Tiger. He's played plenty of classic Wing Commander on his Twitch channel before, but he's decidedly out of practice in WC3. This provides a prime opportunity to jump into the game anew for a fresh experience. You can join in live here on Twitch starting Tuesday at 8 pm Eastern time. There's also still an opportunity to vote at the CIC Forums on the difficulty level you think he should attack.
Fellow Wingnuts,

I'm going to start my full, expanded playthrough of WCIII (Including winning and losing track missions) on Twitch starting on Tuesday, February 9, at 8pm (20:00) Eastern time (GMT -5). I went through the Orsini missions just to be sure the game runs smoothly on stream, and I haven't otherwise played it for a long time. I wanted to start a poll for the difficulty level, which I will stick to as much as is reasonable. I will allow up to two (2) choices, so if you are uncertain, you can at least consider two options.

Note: Missions where we face Aces will be treated differently. I will play the mission up to the confrontation on Easy, then dismiss my wingmate and switch the difficulty to Nightmare in order to face the enemy Ace in a one-on-one duel.

RPG Set for Streaming Event Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

We've got a really cool crossover to share today. Tomorrow, Bonkus_Maximus' Twitch stream will be broadcasting a retro playthrough of Wing Commander Privateer. But it's not just any Priv livestream! He'll be playing the game as an in-universe tie-in to the events that have recently occurred in the Gemini Sector RPG. That's some awesome collaboration and sounds like a lot of fun! You can watch the action starting at 5pm US Pacific / 8 PM Eastern time on Tuesday evening, January 5, over on Twitch. You can also read up on some of the recent RPG logs that set the stage for tomorrow's event.

Hey all! The ever entertaining Bonkus Maximus will be hosting the greatest crossover in the history of mankind. Mark your calendars, January 5th, assuming we survive this year, will feature Bonkus in Palan, avenging the losses that the team of the TCS Majestic took 10 years earlier in the Gemini Sector RPG. Let's salute the magnificent individual and cheer him on on his Twitch stream.

Make Time for Fun in Gemini Sector RPG Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Rear Admiral Tarsus wants to remind everyone that the Wing Commander Gemini Sector RPG is alive and kicking! The group transitioned to Discord a while back and conducts most of their activity in real time chat rooms. A new event calendar has been added to the game's official wiki so players can stay on top of upcoming role playing events. There's also tons of background information at the site that you can read up on before joining yourself! Reach out and introduce yourself if you want to try something different - engaging with your Wing Command buddies is always tons of fun!
In the distant future, mankind is locked in a deadly war…

The year is 2659. War between the Terran Confederation and the felinoid aliens known as the Kilrathi has raged for twenty years, with no end in sight. Seeking to break the stalemate, the Kilrathi have launched a surprise offensive through the edge of Terran-controlled space in Gemini Sector. A tenacious counteroffensive has pushed back the first wave of the Kilrathi assault, but a second wave has washed over Confed's forces and placed the Majestic deep behind the frontline. For the pilots and crew of the Majestic, survival is not the only goal as the current circumstances offer them a prime opportunity to cut the Kilrathi offensive off at the knees.

Based on the 'Wing Commander' series of games, Wing Commander: Gemini Sector offers space opera fun in a bureaucracy-light atmosphere. The game is set aboard a single Terran Confederation carrier, the Bengal Class Strike Carrier TCS Majestic. Roleplaying will be GM-driven at first, but if enough people join, I hope to move in the direction of more free-form RP. Roleplaying events may take place across various locals such as other capital ships, installations, or planets.

Character creation is fairly simple and alts are allowed. You can create a character who is a pilot, a technician, a marine, or a naval officer/enlisted man. Combat is handled by a custom-coded program that appears on the Combat-Bot on the Discord Server. You enter commands and the bot responds to them, changing your action and stance for the current round. Player death does not occur without consent. The main plot is driven by one of the GMs, but there will be opportunities for players to engage in their own subplots. Event sessions (posted on particular channels on the Discord) will be a mixture of combat-focused and social/RP-focused sessions. New players are welcome without requiring Wing Commander background or knowledge of the MUSH events beyond what can be gleaned from Ship Wide Messages and After Action Reports. The rules are light, just be respectful to other players out of character and you are good. The player-base is very friendly and mature.

Overall, the guiding principle is 'We are all here to have fun'.

Fan Project Voting Continues Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

The CIC's annual community vote is now in full swing! If you didn't get a chance to vote last week, the poll is still open and you can input your selection below. The nominees are listed after that, and it's still super inspiring to me to see them all listed out! Half of these projects didn't exist or weren't in the running in 2018, so it's especially cool how much new blood there is this time around.
  • Adm_Maverick Tabletop Adventures began as papercraft models. After Maverick got some practice making miniature WC ships, he branched out into a full fledged game. He's since produced a wide range of supporting items and has been actively playtesting to work out the kinks.
  • AircPirateNinsei's radio controlled flying Hornet model has to be seen to be believed! He's combined his aerodynamic skills with Wing Commander fandom to produce an incredible tribute to the WC series that actually goes airborne!
  • DefianceIndustries has his own personal Wing Commander projects, but he also contributes a great many technical assets to other endeavors. At the core of it are the beautiful designs that he creates at seemingly industrial scale!
  • The Freelancer Mod that replaces most all of the native ships to the game with Wing Commander alternatives was just begun in the later part of the year, but it's already certified as campaign-compatible and working on revamping the entire game economy. This will significantly enhance the level balancing to keep all the factions competitive into the endgame, which is something the original didn't implement great.
  • The Gemini Sector RPG has roots that extend back more than a decade. They've evolved multiple times through MUD/MUSHes to forums and now play on a modern Discord server. They've hosted beginner's sessions to help add new players, and they have a great time doing it!
  • The venerable Homeworld Remastered Mod, also known as Flag Commander, released another major update this year with beautiful starscape skyboxes. They also released an updated play guide and even a WC3 prologue campaign.
  • The Prophecy & Secret Ops Model Upgrade Pack had another big year. On top of a fantastic beta release at the CIC Birthday, they're already hard at work on the next release which will incorporate more beautiful ships and huge capship explosions.
  • UnnamedCharacter's WC Toolbox has helped uncover the mysteries of the original games and spur a renaissance of early-WC modding, but it's just the beginning. A variety of useful tools and digital insights are helping curious Wingnuts dig deeper than ever into the code to find new discoveries and push the boundaries of fan projects.
  • The WC4 Fan Remake started out the year with an impressive new cockpit and then teased some of its first enhanced gameplay footage. The team is now testing higher resolutions and other technical challenges.
  • Wing Leader was one of the most eye-catching projects of the summer. Howard Day added a number of classic WC designs to his own custom Unity WC engine to great effect and gave people an impressive glimpse at what a modern take on the original Wing Commander could be.

Annual Community Vote Begins! Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

The new year's train keeps rolling, and now it's time for our annual fan project contest. Based on Wingnut nominations and our review of the news from the past twelve months, we've narrowed down the long list of amazing fan projects from 2019 into ten nominees. We know it's super hard to pick just one, but try your best! Good luck to all!

Familiar Faces Dot the Sectorscape Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Rear Admiral Tarsus' propaganda seems to be working, since his latest round of Gemini Sector RPG posters seem oddly captivating. Perhaps that has something to do with the stars of his new drawings, the CIC Staff. The first image features LOAF surfing on the back of a Ferret as it roars through space. Dundradal is in his element mansplaining lecturing the tech about torpedoes. Then #Wingnut regular Scout is shown getting tractored into the back of a Longbow after ejecting. Last but not least, it looks like I've been designated as a member of TCN News' press corps. Apparently flattery will get you somewhere! Read all about the Gemini game here and visit the team on their friendly Discord server.
  • Here is a poster with the mighty bandit surfing on a ferret while holding a shield with the crest of the confederation. Important note, his beard is generating oxygen, he's OK, I promise!
  • Here is a poster with Dundradal trying to ask a question we all had for the last 20 years, why can't an Excalibur be loaded with world war 2 era ordinance. :) Mechanic lady is not amused.
  • Here is a poster of Scout showing why we need to stick to established flight lanes. I took advantage of the scene to try a different style of nebula and to make the tractor beam more of a lasso than a blob.
  • Here is a poster of what investigative journalism can do during a war. Thank you Chris, you probably saved more confed pilots than the photon gun ever will. Charmin stocks will drop though.

Gemini Sector About to Heat Up Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

The long running Gemini Sector RPG is about to kick off a new campaign, so Rear Admiral Tarsus whipped up these spiffy propaganda posters to help drum up interest. The RPG has existed in various forms for nearly a decade, so Iceblade and team are sure to put together some fun events. You can get a little taste at the CIC Forums or head over to the project website for a full rundown. They've also recently added a Discord server for the real Wing Commander action!

Hi all, I've been making some WW2-style recruitment posters to celebrate the start of a new campaign in the Gemini Sector RPG. I just wanted to share them. Oh, and we have a great opportunity to join soon as we catching up may be easier. :)
  • Inspired by the "Victory of the United Nations is certain" poster and Privateer art
  • Inspired by Wing Commander Academy's Kilrathi, Bhurak's helm and the "He's watching you" poster

Gemini Sector RPG Works Out Space Combat Rules Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Iceblade has provided a neat update on his Discord-based Wing Commander RPG. He's come up with a novel way for damage to happen that's more elaborate than simple dice rolls and hit points. All of this fancy logic is now being rolled up into a 'CombatBot' that handles the battle math. It sounds pretty cool! You can follow the game's development and see how to get involved yourself at the CIC Forums.
Combat Code is coming along great and is definitely ready for Roleplaying combats. Here is a sample screenshot of combat status page and a round of combat.

There is a fair amount of tactics involved in the system. Damage to various components now affects a ship's ability to fight including reduced ship agility and missiles failing to fire. Shields get weaker the more times they get hit, and armor must be worn down to damage components. There are also 5 methods to neutralizing a target including cockpit kills, crippling damage, and various ways a ship can blow up. You can call your shots to focus on a damaged side, and stances allow you to define how aggressive or evasive you fly each round. Missiles have distinct abilities such as FF missiles ignoring your combat stance and HS missiles doing more damage but are more easily spoofed. In addition, DFs ignore the target's ECM skill and rely on your gunnery and piloting skills to hit.

Additionally, the code easily handles many enemies at once with commands that allow the combat's GM to do team targeting for the NPCs with weapons and targeting being randomized semi-intelligently. This code will be improved over time to implement basic AI that changes stances based on the situation, target damaged quarters of targets, and possibly even use teamwork to focus on wounded ships.

Capships are the next on my task list to allow for more involved combat scenarios involving turret batteries, suppressing flak, torpedo runs, and escort missions.

New Gemini Sector RPG Begins Preflight Checks Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Iceblade is looking at setting up a new dynamic WC RPG and is now polling for interest. He's got extensive experience in past role playing games including both MUSH and Forums based adventures. This time, he's looking at using Discord, which has surged in popularity these past few years (the CIC's #Wingnut chat room is also on Discord!), so he's keeping up with the times. If you have questions or would like to let him know you're game, stop by the CIC Forums.
I am looking into setting up a Discord-based text roleplaying game with a mixture of scheduled events and free-form roleplaying by players. The game would be wiki-supported for information and logs.

Set in Gemini Sector, players will primarily play pilots onboard a carrier caught behind the enemy lines of a massive Kilrathi offensive throughout the sector. The carrier must push back to the front lines, gathering and rescuing surviving vessels along the way.

The time frame will be 2659 to 2661. Epees, Stilettos, and Sabres along with Rapier IIs are well deployed throughout the fleet (carriers at least).

Gemini Sector RPG Launches Website Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

The old Gemini Sector RPG recently transitioned from a classic MUSH style to a message board format that's a bit easier to combine with people's busy schedules. Iceblade has now set up a dedicated website to provide (prospective) players with background information on the storyline, active characters and NPCs. The new website also describes in detail how the combat system works, and visitors can read through RPG session logs to get the feel of the game. Or jump right into the RPG's forum here!

Classic WC MUSH Transitions To New Forums RPG Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Iceblade is in the process of kicking off a really cool new forums-based RPG. He's taken the setting and storyline from the old WC Gemini Sector MUSH and transitioned it to a message board style that's more forgiving on people's schedules. It'll continue to retain some of the combat action and other elements from a MUSH while being merged with a more traditional text role play. Interested players can learn more and sign up at the Phoenix Roleplaying Forums.

That's is where the old Wing Commander Gemini Sector MUSH storyline halted. I am now attempting to reactivate this MUSH as a Forum Role Play Sim over at the Phoenix RP forums. While the story will continue from where Gemini Sector left off, the sim will be easy to jump into for new players/characters. This sim will bridge the forum RP model with certain MUSH style elements by providing an easy to use and understand combat system heavily influenced by the Wing Commander games and a fully detailed layout of the environments you will roleplay in. Unlike the original MUSH, character creation is much simpler and significantly faster; and there isn't a lengthy set of commands you must know in order to contribute. In addition, while MUSH roleplaying events would generally require a single several hour period when all players can meet, this sim allows players to contribute at times more convenient for them with roleplaying sessions lasting several weeks. As of right now, we are looking for a few good men and women to join up and post there interest in the sim proposal thread. These Kilrathi have been waiting too long. Let's wake up the Majestic and kick their furry buts out of Gemini!

Soldiers Needed to Combat Piracy in Gemini Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

The crew of the TCS Phoenix is looking for a few more pilots. Wing Commander From the Ashes is a forum-based role playing game that's been around for about four months. In that time they've put together the basic background of their simulation and started patrolling the Pentonville System. And as any good Gemini flyer knows, nothing good goes down in Pentonville! You can ask the admins any further questions at the CIC Forums or check out the RPG for yourself here.

So we've been involved in a forum-based sim for the past few months now, and it's been both fun and productive. The one thing we're really lacking is participants, and it would be really great to have some more people involved.

Essentially it takes place in 2662 on board TCS Phoenix, a carrier that has been shamed and maligned in the midst of the brutal war with the Kilrathi. Will it be redeemed or destroyed?

You get to create your own character and roleplay with the rest of us both in and out of the cockpit. So far we've been able to join any squadron we like. Currently the ship has a Broadsword squadron, Rapier squadron and Scimitar squadron.

We are currently involved in a mission to deal with a hostile Pirate presence in the current system. Everything is very simple, and you're given a lot of opportunities to interact with and impact the story. I definitely recommend it if you've ever been into roleplaying, fanfics or just want to participate in Wing Commander in a new way. So please join up!

TCS Majestic Missing in Action in Gemini Sector Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Iceblade writes to let everyone know that the Wing Commander Gemini Sector MUSH will soon be moving to a new location. It can currently be found via Mud Connector, but interested players should contact Iceblade to stay in the loop. New pilots (and marines!) are also welcome, and background information on the game can be found here.
The Gemini Sector MUSH will soon lose its hosting, but there is a group of us moving it to a new server and taking over management.

So fellow pilots of the TCSF, the TCS Majestic is lost behind enemy lines in Gemini Sector. Do you wish to seek her out and rescue her from destruction?

Join other pilots across different squadrons as the fight against the Kilrathi enters its final decade. Fly Rapier IIs, Sabres, and Stilettos against the ships of the line from the Empire of Kilrah. Sit down with other pilots and crew in the First and Last bar. Experience the highs and lows of fighting on the frontline during the Great Kilrathi war.

Join the groundpounding Marines as the fight is taken directly to the cats face to face. Or join the crew of the TCS Majestic. Interact with the pilots and marines aboard. Control the Majestic in climactic battles. Aide the wounded, either man or machine.

In addition to smaller combats and role-playing, there will be major story-driven combat-oriented events held weekly.

If you are interested, then email me at my yahoo account: phillipogden1. We will contact you in a week or so with the new server location.

Iceblade reminded us that the Wing Commander Gemini Sector MUSH is still in operation, and it's welcoming new players! The game is a text-based RPG that follows the adventures of a Bengal class carrier in the late 2650s. Check out the project's website for information on how to connect or try out MudConnector. Logs of prior RPG sessions have been archived here, and they make for a super fun read! Visit the CIC Forums if you have any questions.

New MUSH Drops Players into Gemini Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Gemini Sector is a new player in the Wing Commander MUSH world, and it sounds pretty neat! This text-based RPG allows players to assume the role of pilot, marine or crew member on a Bengal class carrier. The story involves Confed's resistance to a surprise Kilrathi assault that occurred in 2657. Players can connect to omen.genesismuds.com at port 2657 to start playing. Newcomers can also go to Mudconnect's page and click on Connect and Play Now to begin.

A tenacious counteroffensive has blunted the Kilrathi assault, but with a massive Kilrathi force in front and a morass of corruption behind, it may only be a matter of time until the Terran lines break...

Iceblade has put together a walkthrough to guide new players to the action. Feel free to post any questions to Crius.net and have fun!

Just entered the game and had my first role playing event where my character interacted with several pilots in the bunkroom. I must say, the whole thing is actually a lot of fun. It is actually a lot like IRC, but instead of conversing as yourself, it is as a character in the WC universe (as a pilot or technicians in the TCSF, crew or command officer in the TCN or even as marine personnel in the TCMC). You end up making a lot of new friends rather quickly as you converse in and out of character with other people.
