WC2 Campaign for FS2 Posts New Demo Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

There's a new test release of the WC2-inspired total conversion being developed for Freespace 2. The first five missions and some basic custscenes are now available, and new sounds and explosion effects have been added. Deathsnake is working on adding the Niven System missions next. There are several steps required to install and play the game (listed below).

You need: Follow these steps:
  1. Install WC Saga Prologue
  2. Place the WC3/Autopilot Techdemo, Inferno Build 3.6.12 & Launcher 5.5g in the WC Saga Folder
  3. Make a Directory in the FS2 root folder called wc2demo and copy the music und core files into this folder
  4. Start the Launcher (not the WC Saga Prologue EXE)
  5. Go into the command line, browse and select the fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF.exe file then goto mod, select mod, wc2demo - ok
  6. If you hardware is very good, goto Video - select 1980x1080, AA and AF to the max (or less if you PC is not that good)
  7. Then features and in the custom flag you enter this: fov 0.65 -spec_exp 7.0 -spec_tube 5.0 -spec_point 8.6 -spec_static 3.0 -ambient_factor 75
  8. Then apply and run the Game, select Campaign, WC 2 Remake and play

Bigger Batch of Screenshots Shows Off WC2 FS2 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Here's some higher resolution shots of the Wing Commander 2 Campaign in work for Freespace 2. That's a pretty sharp looking Ferret in the first shot, and the second image shows off one of the Concordia's infamous flight deck explosions. Deathsnake doesn't anticipate releasing the mod's Gwenydd series for a few months yet, but you can try the initial test release here. Some combination of files is required.

More WC2 Missions for FS2 Released Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

The Wing Commander 2 Campaign mod for Freespace has been updated with several new missions, ships and cutscenes. There are also some tweaks to the HUD interface and intro sequence. Installing it requires several steps: Install the Saga Prologue and 3.6.12 Inferno pack. Then add the initial release followed by this update (32 meg zip). If you tried the first release last week, you should only need the Inferno pack and 32 meg update now. A couple of videos have also been released to show off the game in action.

I continued work on the cinematics (these are not the final cutscenes) to make a few flybys to the ship. I've worked only a few weeks on this mod, so I need still to lern some features and so on. The HUD make me sad because it's a mix of the WC2+3 version (on my computer I see only the WC2 hud).

So have fun and tell me what is good, what's bad, what could be better. The next build perhaps (I hope so) contains camera flyby.

Update: Madman provided these revised instructions:
You need to install the prologue, then copy the latest Inferno build exe into the Saga prologue folder. Make a folder called wc2demo and put the latest release file (it's not an update, it's a new release) and music file in there. Then in the launcher a) change the exececutable to the newly downloaded Inferno build and select a mod (choosing the game folder).
