Preview Tactics Dork Here Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

We've got two more updates from WC Tactics today. The Kilrathi Dorkir Transport has been added to the Nexus engine and is ready to haul stuff around. The model comes in at around 1800 polygons, which puts it on the lighter side. I'm more of a Dorkathi man myself, but those twin tanks look neat from certain angles.

The Tactics shipyard is also coming together. Smaller details have been tweaked to finish up the design. It seems that the Papenburg yard also has a small flight deck to launch a number of Hornets and Rapiers for defense.

WC Tactics Destroys Itself Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Chevieblazer has finished his in-game Destroyer model for the WC Tactics Nexus mod. Its small flight deck will be a critical fighter platform, since tiny attack craft can't exist on their own in the game. The first shot below also shows the ship in formation with an Exeter, Waterloo, Bengal and other Terran designs for the upcoming Wing Commander mod. You can help provide feedback and recommend improvements at Crius.net here.

Shipyards Going Into Nexus Next Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

The next addition to WC Tactics will be a shipyard facility. Chevie has released this tentative design. It was partially inspired by the Pegasus station.

To help with the concept, AD grabbed some shots of the the space dock seen in WC4's Speradon System. If you look closely, there's a neat little Hellcat attached to the structure. It can't be independently targeted, but you can blow it up.

WC Tactics Adds Scimitar And Waterloo Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

It's been a while since we've reported on the latest updates involving WC Tactics for Nexus. The mod has been going some internal shake ups, but the core gameplay still seems to be intact. The Scimitar Medium Fighter and Waterloo Cruiser have been added to the game engine. Nexus' interface is pretty slick, so it's neat to see more and more Wing Commander ships added in.

WC Tactics Adds Original Designs Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

The WC Tactics mod has released a pair of new spaceframes to fill roles in the Terran and Kilrathi fleets. The first ship is a Kilrathi frigate with a small launch deck and a variety of munitions. The second design is a Confed shuttle with a nose-mounted hatch to facilitate the way Nexus docks small craft. A variety of Tactics discussion is going on over in our Fan Projects & Editing forum. That's also a good place for new projects and potential ideas to get tossed around.

Tactics Adds Fralthi Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Another set of WC Tactics screenshots has been released. Be sure to let Chevieblazer know what you think!

Well, there will be more confed races named in my story than just humans and firekkans, but you won't play the vanilla nexus campaign anyway. For now I'm integrating all ships in a single sample mission, just to look how they behave and sort out the one other balancing issue, since afaik there are no charts defining how much power a heavy neutron cannon or laser turret has.

Tactics Adds Two Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

WC Tactics has added the Venture to its roster of WC1 era capital ships. Since Tactics is based on Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, the Venture should play a critical role in the light capship position.
Twin-engined Venture-class corvettes remain the archetypal Terran Confederation corvette to this day. From the end of the Vega Campaign to the opening moves of Operation Backlash, Ventures have served in patrol, reconnaissance, VIP transport and escort roles. When assigned to border patrol duties, a Venture may remain on station in space for two or three years without returning to base.

Notable Venture-class corvettes include the TCS John Bunyan and TCS Johnny Greene, which helped perform the initial reconnaissance of Vukar Tag, and the TCS Marciano, which was one of the first responders to the Goddard disaster.

The Fralthi will be appearing next. Some preliminary shots have been released. Chevieblazer is looking for feedback on the designs here.

WC Tactics Rumbling In-Game Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Chevieblazer has released some in-game shots of the WC Tactics Nexus mod. The Snakeir and Bengal go at it in an explosive battle in the first two shots. A Dralthi makes a fly-by in the third picture, and a special weapon effect fires from a Confed capship in the fourth. The Nexus engine is pretty decent looking, and I'm certainly looking forward to the next Wing Commander game having modern shield flares and lighting like this. Second Nexus Mod Updates Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

RAT has given his Wing Commander mod for Nexus a name to differentiate it from similar projects in the works. This one is tentatively called Wing Commander 2634 to contrast with WC Tactics. The mod now has a website that is currently in Russian. A few more designs have been released. These are lower poly versions that are similar to what would appear in the game. The Bengal and Snakeir are already lightly textured. The Concordia Supercruiser will be a new addition contributed by Bob.

Second Nexus Mod In The Works Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

RAT from Russia has successfully imported a number of ships into his Wing Commander mod for Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. WC Tactics and the original game put a lot of focus on the capital ship, but this mod will attempt to enhance the role of fighter craft. The Hornet and Rapier I have been imported, and there is an untextured Snakeir for them to assault. More progress reports and a website for the project are forthcoming.
