Sketches Are Just The Beginning Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

A lot of people are familiar with the Wing Commander paper models, but there have been numerous creative WC fans who've shared their impressive handiwork with us. Here's a small sample of the fancy things we've seen. Castle's case mod immediately comes to mind. He modified a PC case to feature Centurion and Confederation logos illuminated with blue cathode lights. His car is even decorated with a custom Confed Security decal.

DRAsvitt is famous for creating an armada of clay Wing Commander ships, and the folks at Brickshelf have faithfully recreated the Rapier I and Vampire fighters in Lego. Wingnuts have even recorded songs about their favorite series. Overmortal released three Wing Commander singles a while back. So don't worry if all the fancy 3D artwork and complex game mods seem out of your league. There are plenty of other ways to show off how big of a Wing Commander fan you are.

DRAsvitt Makes More Ships Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Following his return to active duty a couple of weeks ago, DRAsvitt has once again been hard at work. This time he has made models of the Steltek scout ship and the derelict fighter from Privateer. Also he has sent through a making-of picture of his Concordia model.

If you think his Concordia looks cool, keep an eye on eBay as he is auctioning it off tonight. Or if you'd rather try your hand at making your own models, watch this space! DRAsvitt hopes to have a guide to making your own ships ready in a couple of weeks.

DRAsvitt Shows Off His WC Models Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

A long while back DRAsvitt sent us a bunch of pictures of the very cool Wing Commander models he has been casting. It's been a couple years since we've heard from him, so this is a welcome surprise. There are quite a few on display here, and some are pretty detailed.

For size purposes I placed a quarter between the Excalibur and the Shok'Lar
Neato. You can find a bunch of his past designs here.

Tiny Ships for Sale! Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

You asked for it... and asked for it again... and then you asked for it some more. And it's finally happened -- DRAsvitt has made a set of tiny ships and put them for sale on eBay! You can bid on them here -- but be warned, you'll have some competition! (Note to everybody else: we don't normally promote auctions -- so don't ask us to mention the copy of Wing Commander III your dog threw up on that you want to make a mint off of in the news...). Pictured below are the ships that are for sale (TCS Victory, TCS Midway, shuttle, Thunderbolt, Hellcat and Arrow) and one that isn't (Confed Space Station).

Many More Tiny Ships Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Maker of tiny ships DRAsvitt is at it again (well, presumably he never stopped being 'at it', it just doesn't sound as good) with four more spacecraft to show off: an escort carrier (Tarawa-type), a Free Trader class transport, the Delta Flyer (Voyager) and a Minbari ship from the Babylon 5 finale. Neat, neat, neat and neat. His next WC project is the Confederation Star Base...

Some More Even More Tiny Ships, More Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

When it rains, it pours: DRAsvitt is back to show off three new Wing Commander ships... and five ships from the hip online game SubSpace. Quoth "I haven't made very many WC ships lately because I ran out of the Micro Machine display stands that I used to make them with. The most recent WC ships have been made with Plexiglas and Super Sculpey clay. The Subspace ships are made out of pieces of Military Micro Machines and some sculpy clay." WC ships are (interior left to right): Snakeir, Fralthi & Gilgamesh. SubSpace ships are (exterior left to right): Spider, Weasel, Leviathan, Javelin & Terrier.

More Tiny Ships, Yay Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

So I was just having lunch with Joe Garrity, and he asked me what became of the guy who'd been sending in pictures of neat little WC ships he'd made. "Hey, yeah!", I replied -- having no idea where myself. Now, a week later, though, DRAsvitt is back! With more ships! And here they are! (Left to right: Waterloo, Dralthi, Morningstar and Crossbow. Two B5 ships, the Liandra and the Excalibur are in the second row). You can see more of his work in the May and August 2001 archives.

Lucky Thirteen Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

DRAsvitt is back... and he's been hard at work! Check out these thirteen Wing Commander ships he created... and for good measure, the new (old?) USS Enterprise is there, too.

Help the Little Guys Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

DRAsvitt has sent three more pictures of his tiny little ships... the Broadsword, Rapier II and the mysterious Black Lance carrier. He's also got a very reasonable request...
Unfortunately, all of my attempts at creating molds to reproduce the Wing Commander ships have met with failure. Thanks to everyone who sent me e-mails to offer suggestions or to express interest. I'm about to run out of the Galoob Micro Machine display stands that I use to make the framework of the WC ships. If anyone out there has a lot of display stands and you would like to trade them to me for WC ships please e-mail me. The number of display stands you have for trade and the ship(s) you want will affect the deal we make since some ships are very easy to make and others are very, very hard (the Cerberus took me nine hours to make). Thank you everyone for your interest and the C.I.C. for posting my work.

But Wait, There's More! Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Here's even more ships from DRAsvitt -- this picture featurings the Behemoth and the SWC Dralthi! He reports that this will probably be the last update for a while -- he's going to be working on making molds so that he can sell replicas to the people who've shown interest therein.

More from DRAsvitt -- he's painted some more of the ships from his original picture, and he's added three new ships from Privateer 2! This is sure to inspire more crys of "That's amazing!" and "He should sell those things!"...

Huge Tiny Fleet Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

DRAsvitt has been very, very hard at work on physical models of Wing Commander ships -- he's made 44 of them in Micro-Machines style, using using Sculpey III clay. Check it out... this is incredible!
