Academy Episode Reviews Kicked Off Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Plywood Fiend has started a series of video reviews for the episodes of the Wing Commander Academy television show. He covers episodes' plots and hits on a number of discussion points. After incorporating feedback on the first video below, an expanded feature of the second episode was posted here. Let PF know what you think and help him improve future episodes at the CIC Forum!

Wing Commander Academy is available at Amazon.com for $19.99 here. Sharp-eyed readers have noticed that Amazon has sold out of and received additional batches of the set since it was originally released in May. Unfortunately, Target has sold out, but Deep Discount has a pretty good price at around $17.

Supercruiser's Smaller Details Redefined Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Here's a couple updates to callitri's Concordia model. They show how a few secondary structures have been recently overhauled. Side hangar doors were revamped, and the smaller scale guns were sharpened up quite a bit. The third image is a comparison shot from an earlier build. Check out the simple boxy miniguns behind the main turret and blank rectangles on the side. His supercruiser has come a long way! callitri is still looking for a volunteer willing to take a crack at textures.

About this model performing in a game: it has to much detail IMO. Games like Homeworld 2 have seriously limited detailed models. They do great things with textures, which give you a sense of detail and shapes, but the models are pretty basic. I never destined the ship for games, I just wanted to be able to see it because I loved it in the movie. I hope I'll find someone to texture it for me

PS if anyone has good pictures of the Rapier and Broadswords from the movie, I would love to make them too and maybe detail the hangar in a separate setting.

Concordia Supercruiser Sketched Up & Nearly Complete Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

callitri is back at work on his Concordia Supercruiser. There's quite a lot of detail packed into the design. The structure of the model is almost done, and he will be looking for assistance to texture the ship. This is a very impressive use of Google Sketchup so far!
The ship is getting close to being finished. Hope I can find someone who can help me texture it, because I have zero experience in it. Don't forget I am still learning stuff in Google Sketch up, so it's still a learning curve. I have remodeled a few things and redid a few parts. The underside is done, though I feel it's a bit empty. At the moment I have no idea what to put there to change this.

Concordia Details Filled In Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

callitri has now turned attention to areas of his Concordia supercruiser that were harder to see in the Wing Commander Movie or aren't particularly defined in the Confed Handbook. Some special panels and hull plating have been added, and various equipment was installed along the lateral edges. At this point the model itself is coming together, so that might be as far as he can take it. If anyone is up to texturing the ship, head over to Crius.net and let callitri know.

Supercruiser Armament Beefed Up Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

Here's another set of Concordia supercruiser renders courtesy of callitri. In these shots the ribs along the side of the main hull are now visible and surround what might turn into the hangar bay. "Fins" that were more pronounced earlier (and gave the ship a Devastator feel) have been slimmed to better represent the shape. The cruiser is much more heavily armed now with the addition of a third main turret and several secondary batteries positioned on top. The conning tower and bridge are also more detailed and more closely resemble the shape of the original.

Supercool Supercruiser Takes Shape Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Update ID

callitri has been a Wing Commander since he first played WC4 and Prophecy, but his excitement really went into high gear when he saw the Wing Commander Movie. His favorite thing from the film was the Concordia supercruiser, and he's been looking for scraps of info ever since. This has recently manifested itself in a cool rendering attempt. Here are some samples of his first cut where he worked on getting the shapes and angles of the hull right. It has some similarities with the Devastator bomber from certain perspectives. Even in these early shots, you can see how the guns went from looking like french fries to fearsome cannons.
