Wow Great Game!!! (But its really hard)

BossMan

Spaceman
I recently got given "Wing Commander Prophecy Gold Edition" and I though "ah its just an old crappy game" and threw it aside, I wish I hadn't (even though it was only 3 days ago) Anyway I installed it and although the graphics aren't the best the story is EXCELLENT! and the videos well, nuff said - IT ROCKS!!!!

WOW AMAZING GAME!!

Although I am stuck on the 3rd mission, after failing the second cause I had to eject I thought it best I try to at least do the second one.

Its really hard even on easy, I run out of ammo and missiles really quickly and have to switch to pulse phasers or something, but they're really weak whatever they are :(

Oh well I am sure I will improve hehe

WELL DONE CREATOR PPL :D

/me holds a toast to the game designers

Actually, it's not hard, you just must really suk.

j/k:) If you have any specific problems with any missions than just ask for help here.

Hey! Is this supposed to be a motivation!!! We all started somewhere, don't we? Cheer up, BossMan, you will certainly become better. Maybe you just train with kicking some Kilrathi-asses with the first three wing commanders, and don't forget "No Blair feel from heaven!" ;) (I hope this quote makes sense in english, though it is a german phrase)

once you get into that game your gonna 0wn some r04ch3s
give it some time, you'll get good after awhile trust me

Eh, I too had problems with one of the missions on the first disk; the one where you have to fly to 8 nav points and escort a transport group back to the Midway... I had to play that a few times to get through it!

I'm playing through the game for the first time myself. No offense, but so far, I think Prophecy is the least in the series. It's pretty, sure, but it definitely lacks the plot developments of previous WC games.

I wish I had Gold Edition! Damned Secret Ops! :(

Yes, if you enjoyed Prophecy, you'd LOVE Wing Commander's 3 and 4, and you'll most likely like 1, 2, and Privateer.

It's been a little while since I played WCP last, so i'm not much help on individual missions.

If you think WCP story and video is great wait till you try WC3(KS) and WCIV. WCIV is my fav.

nO OFFENCE but EW was right Prophesy was ridiculously easy. It's Nightmare setting was less difficult than WCIV's Ace setting

If you're finding it tough...swich on invincibility. :D Hey, it's what I did, and games are for your ENJOYMENT, not for you to get all worked up about. Besides, you'll get better whether you use it or not. I sure did. :D

Actually WCIV is probably my least favorite game in the series * Ducks for cover * .
Sure the story rocked hard but i think WCIV was too much story and not enough exciting missions. Plus the ship physics sucked.

That's what many people said at the time, hence the change in focus for WC:p (along with budget concerns, obviously)

But you have to admit that playing tag with a swarm of "one hit, one kill" missiles was kind of fun. :) Seriously, one of the things that drew me into WC was the epic storyline, and WC4 took that to its ultimate conclusion.

Best, Raptor

I have to agree with you there , WCIV's story was epic in scale and i loved it just as much as you. But if they payed just as much attention to the gameplay as they did with the story ,WCIV would definately be my fav WC game.

WC3 is still my baby, don't ask me why. I think WC4 however is the pinacle of the series. It was the most immsersive. Thus far into Prophecy, I'm rather disappointed in the lack of interactiveness, movies, moving around on the Midway, etc.

I don't think the problem with Wing Commander IV was so much that they didn't pay attention to the gameplay... rather, they paid an incredibly high amount of attention to the video -- and despite hte nifty gameplay elements (atmospehric missionsm, multiple wings, new weapons and so forth), the video vastly outshadowed it all.

Sorry to be the nay-sayer here, but I loved the fact the video element was so pumped up. It gave the enviroment and the game a hightened sense of reality. Granted the gameplay was barely above par than what was in WC3 but I think the fact I really gave a damn about people, and I even began to notice extras and such (like the cute girl at the helm of the Intrepid or that guy at the helm of the Vesuvius that gives Tolwyn sh*t for turning about) is really a testament to the game as a whole.

Still, WC3 is perfered to me. It had a darker quality and more hushed, esp since Confed was losing the war, a contradiction to the previous games. I think I'd've put WC2 above them all, but 3 had the whole live actors and FMV thing that pushed it above the rest. WC2 had a great damned story though (I played it after WC3) and I love it to death, though, my mind's eye isnt as "pure" as some on this board. You say Kiltahi, I think of WC3, not their previous incarnations, which still look mighty cool. Hobbes shoulda kept the earings and stuff! :D

hmm I am getting the hang of it.

But some missions do just seem impossible... I did that one with the 8nav points with two tries, but the one before that felt impossible, every time I ended up ejecting on the 3rd nav point :( So eventually I gave up and continued.
(I have seen the "Invinsibilty" option, that would make it really easy but I dont want to use it.
The only problem I have is finding the mother ship thing sometimes I can never work out the radar or lock onto it so I can find it :(

Ah well.

Btw can you play WCP on the net? I havent seen any options for it - if not its a shame.

I will look out for the newer ones (WC).
Thanks for the advice!

-Matt

Unfortunetly there won't be any new WC games in the near future, if every. You should try some of the older games though, despite old graphics their gameplay is still good, and story if often better than in Prophecy.

And no, you can't play Prophecy on the net. It was supposed to have multiplayer capabilities, but Origin dropped the feature before the game was released.
