Wing Commander Saga Marks Download Record (April 1, 2012)

Long Live the Confederation!
There's great news from Wing Commander Saga today: the FreeSpace 2 total conversion team announced that their game has been downloaded an astounding 157 trillion times since its launch last week. Producer Tolwyn congratulated his developers, but cautioned that the number of Saga users may never be known. It turns out that an exact download count is impossible because of the sheer number of mirrors and the vagaries of bittorrent usage... but one thing is still certain: more people have played Saga than make up the sum total of all humans living and dead across the entire gulf of mankind's shared history. Congratulations, Saga! We look forward to the next milestone: one person actually finishing the game.

This has long been a secret of the development team, but the vast majority of our publicity attempts have actually been to people who are dead and/or undead. This represents an enormous demographic that has largely been ignored by both retail products and fan projects, and as a team we recognized that this demographic represented a very large opportunity for anyone willing to pay a psychic $375 per hour to be on the phone with them. Our 157 trillion downloads thus far have been a powerful testament to the power of tapping this potential fan base.

By the way, they all say they have been dying (*rimshot*) for another Chris Roberts Wing Commander game to come out, so we thought we would pass that along for them.

Congratulations on the incredible response! Who knows what this may mean for the future of WC (here's hoping that game designers take notice), and thanks very much for your contribution.

I don't think so. There's only about 4 billion people on the planet, it's simple maths and a lot of them don't have internet. While impressed with the number of downloads, no need to massage the figures into the realms of make believe.
