Wing Commander on the Radar (January 9, 2009)

PC Gamer/Games Radar has gotten around to reviewing Jumpgate Evolution, and what review would be complete without a nod to Wing Commander. The article is pretty positive about the game, and it cites similarity to WC instead of competitor Eve Online as a major plus. Find the review here.
Aside from the mech genre, space combat is a gaping black hole in PC gaming we desperately want filled. Mixing real-time combat with MMO persistency hits a great note. It’s an MMO for folks (like me) who miss the charming barrel rolls and tense missile locks of Wing Commander, but it’s laden with enough persistency to let you fly cooperative missions and develop your character up to captaining capital ships.
Thanks to Starman for this one.

Developers also recently announced that there will be separate EU/US servers so sadly I doubt I'll be seeing many Wingnutters given I'll be EU side :(

At least with the current Jumpgate (generally referred to as JGC, or Jumpgate Classic), before the big merger there were separate clients for EU and non-EU customers. At a guess, JGEvolution is going back to separate servers due in part to the lag (which can get pretty bad for JGC players from EU), but probably also in part to the totally different cultures that evolved from when JGC was separate groups GMed with different goals in mind.

I really start needing to pay attention to JG again...
