Wing Commander free on PCPP coverdisc

Manboy

Rear Admiral
Just a quick shoutout to Australian and New Zealanders: Issue 146 of PC Powerplay, which has just been released, contains the original Wing Commander plus the latest version of DOSBox on their DVD coverdisc!

It contains a bunch of other free stuff too, so if you need the original Wing Commander, or just want another copy, go and buy this months issue.

This is kind of a big deal. Magazines don't just pull random stuff out of a box to put on their coverdiscs. They have to negotiate with the original content owner, and both parties have to believe that the game they're looking at is worth the investment of their time to work out the details (and it does take time, even if the game is unchanged with a loose copy of DOSBox attached). More positive news in an already unbelievable year.

Of the 16 games that are free (which includes Transport and Railway Tycoon, Captain Comic 2, Halloween Harry, Wacky Wheels and Frederik Pohls Gateway), Wing Commander is the very first mentioned in the disc contents. The original cover art is even featured on the dvd-case, albiet in thumbnail form. Hey, it caught my eye!
When gamers think of classic gaming, Wing Commander is always there right at the top.

Definitely exciting. One of the first things to cross my mind besides "Wow!" was "Why now?"
