Wing Commander: Academy problems

I'm having a problem playing Wing Commander: Academy on my computer. I have Windows 2000 as my OS, and I recently installed WC: A on there. Everything was going fine and dandy (even though I had no clue what exactly it was asking for during the installation process) until I tried to start up the program.

When it did, the little DOS window opened, and an underscore was jumping all over the place. I stopped the program, and next thing I know, my printer had printed up around 6 pages of what had just appeared in that little window.

Does anyone know just what the hell is wrong with it, and how I can get this game to work?

I've seen that before. Either you're trying to run from the CD-ROM (or possibly from the HD with read-only attributes set), or you don't have expanded memory set up - I can't remember which is the cause.

If you can't work out how to get expanded memory, let us know.
